I was hoping that the new HEB store would be built anywhere other then the Eastern edge of Cove.

I hope the old HEB will be a bowling alley fun center or something. Need more to do here in town.

Maybe we could ensure another pawn shop is opened in the old HEB. Some sort of super pawn shop - lots of stolen items and other junk nobody wants.
I agree with Wobbley - think traffic is bad now? Wait until a Super HEB opens in the planned location. The only two food stores will then be right across the street from each other - HEB and Walmart.
Brilliant planning.

You people bitch and complain about everything! You never have anything good to say about anything. You can't be the least bit happy that we are getting a nice new shopping center that means more places to shop for the people of the city and a boost to the local economy???

If you are so unhappy here why don't you move? You know nothing gets done by bitching and complaining. If you want to work for the betterment of the city why don't you run for city council?? You don't want to do that because you would rather sit on the sidelines and complain!

I think your forgetting about the reliever routes around the city that are being built to provide access to the shopping mall.

When the EDC first told the public about the new shopping center they claimed that it was going to generate more property taxes and sales taxes.

Now they proudly announce that an existing HEB store will move to the shopping center and be the ANCHOR STORE. This deal will not be a net gain for the City IMO.

If this is the best the EDC can come up with as an anchor store, I hate to see what other stores they will entice to come here.

Those reliever routes will take business away from the city.
I'm talking about going grocery shopping. Driving down 190 in Cove is bad enough now. Wait until the mall opens. Traffic jam plus at the intersection of 190 and Constitution Drive where everybody is trying to go to the mall/HEB and others to Walmart.
I can drive to Lampasas and the HEB and Walmart there in 20 minutes. It takes me 20 minutes now to drive to Walmart and get aggravated that you have to park in the back 40.

How long have you lived here? If less than 25 years then I suggest you start asking people how this city used to be. It used to be great. This new mall will be nice, but plan on Cove Terrace to look like a ghost town. It just about is now. When I first moved here we had 5 grocery stores, three department stores, three new car dealerships, two appliance stores, three home building/hardware stores, electronics stores and numerous other businesses that no longer exist.
With the soldiers back now, government contractors will be laying off en masse. Plan on high unemployment and empty houses that sit for sale for years. Yep - only a matter of a couple of years until stores in that new mall start dropping like flies also.

I agree Wobbley. An anchor store should be something like a Lowe's or Home Depot, not a supermarket.
This will be a joke and in two years after completion stores will be closing.
Of course that great $250k, non-working junk of a sign will make tens of thousands in advertising and direct people where to shop.
You people are delusional.

I would not be surprised to hear the next announcement by the EDC claiming that their next big catch is the relocation of Ace Hardware to the Shops of Five Hills. (sarcasm)

Complain Complain Complain but you never offer any solutions or compliments for progress. No one wants to go back to 25 years ago. I would prefer to look towards the future and make that better instead of lamenting on the glorious past, which when you look back on it truthfully and objectively, wasnt as great as you make it out to be, nor can it be changed or returned to. But the future of this city can be changed and improved.

Oh great wise one please lead us out of this horrible situation. Help us Obi Wan with your wisdom and leadership. Surely you could help this sagging city with all of the knowledge you possess from your computer. Wont you please consider running for public office so all of your ideas can be put into motion for the rest of us to benefit from.

Maybe you could buy it and turn it into a Complainatorium. You could sell your complaints to customers, maybe offering a 2 for 1 complaint special or you could get "Crazy Mad" and offer 50% off on your complaints today only. Then at least your complaints would be helping the city because or the sales tax revenue.

Sure, the EDC will lead us well into the 21st century. Maybe they can bring No Touch back. I'm sure No Touch would buy a lot of the advertising space on that beautiful $250,000 non-working digital sign.
The Downtown Association goes under. Where did that money go?
The Chamber of Commerce has a theft - last report was $7-8000. That sure was hushed up.
You people need to wake up and get a clue.

Now look at you. You flip flop more than a pancake. You were one of the ones on here against the firemen when they asked for civil service to get rid of the same good ol boy system that you now want us all to wake up and get a clue about. Well look who just caught up.

The firemen wanted a union. If you believe anything else you are sadly mistaken.

Once again you show your ignorance on this and the majority of the other issues you comment on. The Cove Firemen have had a Local Union since 2002. I guess its true what they say, "those who normally know the least speak the most and the loudest."
