Is this what I get for giving blood for my country?,

I want to know what I can do to get recognition and help. I just got honorably discharged by the United States Army, I was First Cavalry I was sent to Iraq and I was wounded in combat. I was airlifted to Laungstahl Germany to Laungstahl regional medical center. I was then taken to Walter reed Maryland, and then to darnel medical center in fort hood Texas. They informed me that i was going to be placed in WTB (warrior transition Battalion)I was given a report date and until that repot date I could go home and rest. Before I could report my unit called my wife and asked where I was at and that I was going to be reported AWOL. My commander Captain Bassett and our acting first class Sgt. Scott came to the house and intimidated me threatening to report me AWOL and thrown in the Brig. They informed me that I was to report to rear detachment second Battalion 5th cav.reg the following Monday. When I reported I was placed in 1st platoon (medical). They then told me I would not receive my purple heart even though I had got injured and that I was to go get evaluated for my injuries. I never had a NCO to take me to get evaluated. They knew I was medically and mentally unstable from combat and yet had me going to every formation making it impossible for me to seek attention for my medical need I was constantly harassed by my unit. I got to the point to where I was suicidal and then proceeded to admit myself into the psych. ward in Darnell Hospital. When I was there they told me my chain of command said I was never wounded and that I was crazy none of it ever happened let me note now that I am on several medications for TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury) which were prescribed to me by the united states army for my injuries. The major then recommended I be chaptered out by failure to adapt and if I refused that he would make my life hard and that I would be punished. so I am now out on failure to adapt with no purple heart they refused to clear me correctly I am stuck in fort hood Texas where the army brought me I am from Kansas they will not help me get back home and refuse to pay my last paycheck. I have been stripped of my honor and dignity I fought for the united states and gave blood for this country and this in my opinion is not the way to treat a soldier I need to know what I can do about this situation. please contact me back
sincerely,
Caleb Cody Padgett.

I find this hard to believe, but if what you say is true, then contact the III Corps IG Office.

If this is true IG should have been contacted in the very beginning. Even Garrison Command has a hotline you could have used. You or your wife (on your behalf)could have also filed a Congressional Complaint as well.

There's a lot in the OP I really don't understand. What, for example, is an acting first class Sgt. Did he mean acting 1st Sgt? Could he have been evacuated to Landsthul (which is what I think he meant) medical center for a noncombat related injury - rollover, industrial accident or whatever? If that's the case he isn't entitled to the Purple Heart. Darnall should have some record of processing him in and what they told him to do.

It's hard to believe my Army and the people in it would do that at this time in history. Maybe back in my day that could have happened but not today. There must be more to it than what has been written.Read the statement closer I dought this guy was ever in the Army. Too many mistakes for someone that was suppose to be in the Army.

Will - if you go back and think about Your Army days and I go back and think about My Army days I think we may agree that there was and still is a very high degree of illiteracy amongst the enlisted. I knew several NCO's that could barely write complete sentences let alone complete paragraphs. They were great soldiers but lacked the skills to write well.
You yourself mention "mistakes" but failed to notice that "dought" is really spelled "doubt".

I'm sure there's more to this story but I did see some pretty messed up things happen to fellow soldiers in my time. If the OP is really getting the shaft as he says he is and I were him - I would have contacted the media and plead my case there instead of posting in here. But before all of that he should have worked within the Army's channels to resolve this before he was discharged.

He also mentions a traumatic brain injury so spelling and grammar shouldn't even be considered in this matter.

Sounds like someone looking for a lottery payout! Why would anyone air their laundry to total strangers? Kind of like a pedophile going to a daycare to get "help"! If your story is even remotely true, go tell it to a lawyer not a bunch of armchair quarterbacks(me included lol)!

You didn't get the point I was trying to make. I could care less if he made a mistake in spelling or grammer.I know I can't spell and my grammer is very poor.

To Who Dat, You know what I have done that, first off I have to have a place to go, second Money to get myself there, Three they failed to notify me that unless you go to transportation within ten days of clearing out that they wont give you jack in money. So If you wanna get the full story of whats going on with me then ask and stop thinking that ur army is perfect because its not and never has been. They screwed me, and you know it and I wouldnt be supprised if your one of the people in my chain of command who failed to properly lead their soldier. I was only a PFC and 90% of my time in the Army was spent in Iraq, so Its a little hard to know what all your options are when your not being led. I did my job, did what I could do, and nobody cared, and all I want is for my job back, and to be where I should be, out in the field defending my country, so I say to you stop and look harder and ask the lower enlisted men and women of this nations army how things really are. You know that they use scare tactics as well and im sure youve seen it. I have a family, a wife and three kids to take care of. I JUST NEED HELP I DONT WANT A PAYOUT OR MEDALS! I want my life back that was taken from me not by the Taliban or Alcaida, but by my own U.S. ARMY. Thankyou and Have a wonderful day sir.

Padgett - Do you have a copy of your clearing papers, copy of your orders & your DD Fm 214 and go to the IG - someone should help you get packed up becaus with an honoable discharge the will store your property for ONE year or until you have a final destination (a place in Kansas). If the IG does not help get your congressman, your state Senator and get the Killeen Herald involved. Gen Casey was out here a couple months ago saying how the army takes care of their own (bull s***) prove them wrong. One other place GO to the Red Cross office - they can help with the money

Padgett - one more thing remember the ABC news reporter who had the head injury (I can not recall his name) contact him - he is a big supporter of soldiers with TBI. He does stories like yours.
I think his name is Robert Woodard.
