Coryell County small farm owners be afraid! The Coryell County Sheriff’s department will confiscate your animals if they think your farm isn’t pretty enough, and even if they can’t make the charges stick they will sell them to pay for their actions as well as make it nearly impossible for you to appeal!
Ms. Medverec has a long history caring for numerous animals on her 60 plus acre farm and frequently takes in rescue animals, some that are not salvageable. She spends thousands on animal feed, farrier and vet bills. Recently she has been through a divorce from a well known local man. Ms. Medverec also fired two people who lived on her farm for embezzling from her. After the divorce and the dismissal of the dishonest employees, Ms. Medverec noted frequent visits from Deputy Wright of the Coryell County Sheriff Department. She remembered Deputy Wright from the time her ex-husband introduced her to him! Ms. Medverec contacted Dr. Kerry Newman of Gatesville to evaluate the welfare of her animals. Dr. Newman prepared an extensive report deeming the animals to be in good condition.
Roughly 14 days later when Deputy Wright again appeared on her land unannounced Ms. Medverec filed a complaint against him. The next day Deputy Wright arrived with an army of Deputies to confiscate her animals. They ran over one of her goats killing it and backed the trailer over her stallion’s leg fortunately without serious reported injury. In all the county storm troopers seized roughly 34 horses, 54 goats, 7 donkeys, 8 head of cattle and 3 hogs from the paddocks and pens on Ms. Medverec’s 60 plus acre farm.
After the seizure the local press talked of animal cruelty charges. When it was time to file charges the county was caught unprepared after the veterinarian’s evaluation. They came up with little better than something about the water not being clean (although no samples were tested) and questions as to the grooming of the animals after the week’s rains. Deputy Wright also was reported to comment that the horses foot care was not up to “his standards.” This upset farrier Bruce Dareing who cares for these horses regularly and is a law enforcement official in Holland, TX.
At the hearing Coryell County Justice of the Peace Coy Latham, was presented with supporting documentation as to the extensive care Ms. Medverec lavishes on her stock. He also heard testimony from experts such as Dr. Newman and Mr. Dareing and numerous others. The county reportedly only produced two witnesses, Deputy Wright and a “friend of a neighbor” who has requested that Ms. Medverec sell her some of her acreage but has been refused. In spite of the evidence supporting Ms. Medverec’s case, the JP has ruled that Ms. Medverec can have her horses, donkey’s and goats but the county is keeping the cows and pigs to cover the $4000 in costs they claim they are owed for the animals care for the last week! It is interesting that the JP thinks Ms. Medverec can only care for the higher maintenance horses but can’t be trusted with hogs and cows! It is also interesting that the county kept animals that are easily sold. While in court, Ms. Medverec’s property was vandalized. Tto appeal Ms. Medverec will reportedly have to post a $7000 bond for animal care and pay her attorney $2500 over the $5000 she reportedly owes!
When Ms. Medverec collected some of her animals she found them without shelter and their only source of water was a trough that had run dry! Even $4000 doesn’t buy you quality animal boarding from Coryell County!
The bottom line is that if you keep livestock and your neighbor wants your land, or your ex-husband or disgruntled former employee has an agenda to cause you harm you are in trouble. The county sheriff department is ready to confiscate your property, sell it to cover inflated expenses and make it impossible for you to appeal unless you are rich! Be Afraid Coryell County Farmers... Be Very Afraid!!!

Be careful of whom you are trying to accuse Farmer E of having an agenda. Blue Heaven has had a deputy or two out there even when the ex-husband and ex-empolyees were there.
I am sorry to hear that they were vandalized; that is just not right.

Gatesville is truly a city run by good ol' boys. They are stuck in the 1930's.

I told my husband that it didn't make sense for them to give some animals back if there was truly a case for abuse or neglect. I'm sorry you had to go through that. I have heard good things about your farm and how well you take care of your animals.

The latest is that the Texas Rangers and State DA are investigating the Sheriff for corruption over this.
This lady has done nothing wrong, and the county DA has even stated that.
After she sues the sorry bastards she'll own half the property from Cove to Gatesville. lol

I have been at Blue heaven Farm riding their "rental" nags, they are sick and lame. The place is a trash dump site. The horses stand in filth, their water is not changed and is often littered with duck poop. Horses die up there every month. I have worked up there. The owner hires cheap slave labor uses them up and tosses them out like the trash hole that place is. She makes them spend thier own money to fix up her place with the promise of being paid back and then she fires them without the return of their money. A horse had to put down because she was to stupid to give the horse the medication she fired us. The owner of Blue heaven Farm picked the correct name, because so many of the animals go to heaven shortly after they arrive. When ther police showed up, they were directed to the "Death Pit" The owner had the dead animals drug to a pit to be burned. The animals, however never fully burnt up before the next one was dumped on top. After a few weeks the Death Pit got too full of dead animals, and none would burn up. It was an ugly mess. The owner should have been thrown in jail. I've worked at a lot of horsed farms/ranches, this place could not be called anything of the sort. If she had over 100 aniamls taken from her, why the hell is she trying to get a tax free theraphy riding program? If a person did not have PTSD before they got there, they sure will after they go out and see the condition of this dump site. There are plenty of really nice places to ride, seek out the therapists at Perri Haynes. For more information on her program contact Ona at the Perri Hayne Equistrian Center, you will not be disappointed.
