Be sure and vote on Saturday. We'll never get a sane responsible School Superintendent if we don't elect a new board.

Well, In The Know, I'm glad you're satisfied with the performance of the current Superintendent, but the fact is that the district has been running well due to it's own inertia, but with the loss of Sonny Monroe, Bobby Ott and Brenda Cox, that inertia is coming to an end. The people who replaced them, Robert Edmonson, Troy Galow and Cindy Hutcherson are all very pleasant, but I wonder if they'll be able to perform at the same level as the folks they replaced. Cameron is so busy traveling (do a freedom of information request to see how much traveling she does) that I suspect she isn't managing the District, she's merely a figure head. That's just my take on it and time will show us which of us is correct.

Jim, didn't you recently retire also? Lot of people seem to be leaving but the Supt. has been at the helm while good results have been achieved. The top person is often criticized but results speak for themselves. She was the Supt. while the others were employed, also.

johnjoe, nope, I'm still gainfully employed. And, while good results have bene achieved, I wonder if it's not like Barry Switzer winning a Super Bowl with Jimmy Johnson's team and then having the Cowboys just fall apart. As I said to "in the know", time will tell.

I agree time will tell. She has been the Superintendent for 5 years. What do you consider enough time? I would consider 5 years ample enough time. At least it is more than enough time to give an indication.

Well, johnjoe, I would tend to agree except the previous management team stayed intact until last year, when Sonny Monroe and Bobby Ott left. Then, Brenda Cox retired this year. So, I view the next couple of years as telling the tale about Dr. Cameron.

One of the three you mention wasn't very highly thought of, was he? I hear Robert is doing a fine job. You seem to be in the know, though. It will be interesting to see how the newbies do.

Well, to be fair, each of the 3 who left have personalities that make it easy to be put off by them, but from a perspective of competence, each were great in their area.

Honestly, I hope each of the people who have moved up into leadership positions quickly grow into the jobs for the sake of the students. I'm glad to hear you say you hear Robert's doing well. I suspect that he's having the easiest transition and I'm glad for him.

I wouldn't want to be characterized as one of those "in the know" types, but I do worry for CCISD right now.

Alot of people were happy to see him go. He did not live in our town and wanted to run the school. So, it is a matter of opinion to who is wanted and not. It is a blessing he is gone.

Laura, if you are talking about the former deputy, while I don't really remember all the particulars, but there was some thing about an order of custody that prevented him from living in the cove district. I know that it was clearly explained to the board and they hired him anyway, so obviously they didn't think of it as a problem

As far as who wanted to run the district, when the person hired to run things is using the travel budget rather than staying in the district to supervise it, someone has to step up. I'd say the fact that Ott got tired of it and left is a sign he didn't really want to serve as you describe.

No. Dr. Ott was very good for the district and was well respected and liked.

Dr. Ott left because of better job opportunity and much, much more money. He really liked the current
Superintendent, to my knowledge. I do not believe he got tired of Cove.

Dr. Ott says Dr. Cameron is an excellent Supt. and he like CCISD. He was offered a better, more high paying job in KISD.

Well, Dr. Ott is too smart and too politically savvy to say anything else.:-)

So, you guys must have been talking about Monroe ("He" is a clue...call me kreskin). Sorry about my confusion. I really don't know as much about how he related to Dr. Cameron, but I do know he managed the District's finances so well that it could build a new elementary school and still have a good enough "rainy day fund" to prevent a lot of lay offs this year. Further, if he weren't competent, he wouldn't have moved over to Killeen to work with technology.

So, Dr. Cameron is retiring, the cirriculum department is falling apart and the School Board has given no clue as to what they'll be looking for next.

Should have put new folks on the board during the last election. The ones you returned are the ones that are "entitled" to spend your money on travel and allowing waste. Shame you guys didn't listen.

I only hope they don't give the Superintendency to Dr. Ott. While he's a likable and competent guy, why would we want someone that was too unethical for Killeen?

It is my understanding that in these "cash strapped" times for ISD's across Texas there is only two school districts that increased their athletic budgets. One of them is CCISD. The board is cutting teachers and others this year but increased the athletic budget by 20K? I think their priorities are screwed up!
