I have seen discussions about football but never about baseball. With the release of the all-area team, who is the best baseball player to ever come out of Cove?

Brent Garner. As outstanding as he was at QB for the Dawgs, he was an all-state shortstop in baseball.

I WILL DEFINITELY AGREE GARNER WAS AN AWESOME BASEBALL PLAYER. COVE HAS AN INCOMING SENIOR TY JOHNSON, THAT PLAYED VERY WELL LAST SEASON. HE LEAD THE AREA LAST SEASON IN HR AND WAS 1ST TEAM ALL-DISTRICT AS WELL AS BEING ON THE ALL-AREA TEAM. HE PLAYED IN THE TEXAS JR CLASS ALLSTAR GAME IN WACO. WE WILL SEE WHAT HIS SENIOR YEAR WILL BRING. DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT COLLEGE GARNER WENT TO.

Garner went to MCC on a baseball scholarship and then transferred to Sam Houston State to tryout for the football team, then went to Abilene Christian to tryout for their football team. He has since graduated. He was a fine athlete.

Sheamer was a pitcher in the early 90's, around 94-95, he got a juco scholarship and the best hitter in my opinion was Chris Woehl. Set the homerun record here and UMHB.

There has not been a power hitter like Chris Woehl. Gary Wright was close but didn't have the number of homeruns that Chris had.

I remember Chris. He was a real excellent ball players. Did great at RB for the Dawgs also.

It is odd that no one has overtaken the home run record as the equipment has improved to the point that a hitter has the advantage over the pitcher these days.

HIGH SCHOOL HAS ADOPTED THE SAME BAT AS COLLEGE. TRUE THE EQUIPMENT WAS GETTING GOOD. THE BAT IS STILL -3OZ. BUT THE BBCOR BATS HAVE A LOT LESS POP THEN THE OLD BATS TAKING 25 TO 30FT OFF AN OUTFIELD SHOT. THE SWEET SPOT IS REAL SIMILAR TO A MLB WOODEN BAT. BY THE WAY WHAT IS THE HR RECORD? MIKE C THANKS FOR THE INFO ON SHEAMER.

I heard it was Chris Woehl and he hit around 30. His former coach was Jim Lowery and he is still coaching at CCHS, but is now the softball coach. Contact him, bet he would know.

I've seen Brent play and I've played WITH Ty Johnson, Ty is hands down the best player ive ever played with and there's a strong argument that hes the best player I've ever seen play in person at the high school level. And dont forget that he has been doing great the past two year on varisty at 15 and 16 years old. I cant wait to see how he does this year. If he closes out his senior year at the age of 17 with another all district honering and another all area spot, he will be hands down the best player in Copperas Cove history.
