Whitehall candidate can't run in both parties : The Morning Call Online

Why not? Most politicians slide one way or the other in the course of their political careers. Heck, Hillary Clinton has been trying to run as a disguised middle of the road independent for years.

Seems to me that Palagonia and Kulp have their own agendas in all this as eluded to above. The ole pot calling the kettle black. The citizens of Whitehall and Coplay would be very fortunate to have Detective Hoffman as their Magesterial Judge.

It does not matter why or who filed this suit. The fact remains that Hoffman was dishonest and did not follow the PA State rules when he filed his petitions to run for the position. It is not a good way to start off looking for votes. NOT MINE!

I don't understand why not either?

I have seen many, many names over the years listed on election ballots (voting machines) for more than one party. I mean, "John Smith" would be listed as the Republican Party candidate, and as the Conservative Party candidate.

As long as the person is officially nominated by the party, who is this judge to disagree??? Isn't it the political party's choice, and their alone, if they want to share a candidate with another party?

Why NOT? If you have to ask you could not have read the rest of the article.

Almost all DJ candidates cross file. IN this case the guy messed up the paperwork. And because it was on the Republican petitions, he can not run on the republican ticket.

The person above stated there is an agenda. However, I do not believe it is personal. It is very political meant to strengthen the good ole boys.

This "witchhunt" is driven by both personal vendetta and promotion of the "good ole boy" network. If you read the petition affidavit which Hoffman signed, it simply states that the petitioner resides in the voting district in which he seeks election. Hoffman didn't copy down names from graveyard headstones; nor did he deliberately solicit improper signatures from anyone. Numerous people confused their residences in North and South Whitehall as being in Whitehall. Similarly they thought their Coplay, RD address meant they were Whitehall-Coplay voters. Numerous others signed on the wrong party page because they falsely named to which party they belonged. Others signed both Halal's and Hoffman's petitions, not being aware they could only sign one candidate's. Lastly, Doris Stearn's petitions were never questioned. One of the objecting attorneys actually told one of the subpoenaed witnesses that Halal's main objective was to put enough pressure on Hoffman to make him quit. Is that honorable politics? Hoffman's only mistake was to be too trusting of the public and of his opposition. Although he's a detective and decorated two war veteran, he still looks for the best in everyone. I think that will make him an excellent judge.

If Mr. Jerry Palagonia was so interested in following the law to a "T" and constesting the petition was nothing personal, why did he endorse the McNeill appointment that cleary voilated the Home Rule Charter? or was the appointment personal.

I no longer live in PA anymore, but back in 1975/1976 I resided in Whitehall, PA..I had belonged to the Emergency Square in Catasauqua. So did Mr. Palagonia. He was about 30 at the time. I was 14-15. he was a police officer at the time. Needless to say, an affair started. I was very young and naive at the time, but he was a police office. In retrospect, he should of known better. He was a cop, and he was 30 years old. Anyway, so much for Whitehall's finest.....
