While both Northampton and Whitehall say they don't want to provide "formal" service, what is being left out of the conversation is that if Coplay "fires" its fire department and an emergency happens, Northampton and Whitehall WILL respond and provide the same service it provides in their communities. There is a so called "duty to respond".

You are incorrect... no such thing applies to a volunteer organization. Leagally none of the volunteer fire and EMS personnel need to respond, and there is nothing that can be done about it. They do it because they want to not because they have to.

What township does Coplay pay taxes to? Linda is real good at doing things on the cheap.

First off, not the same Linda. Whitehall gets tax money from Coplay just for the school district, not for anything else.

The bottom line is that Coplay Borough is responsible for providing Fire Protection to protect it's community.
Council should cut their losses, sever all ties with the "social club", build a realy fire station and plead with the good firefighters to return to active duty!
What is the "social club" raising money for any how???

You main Problem is Coplay needs to figure out where they stand, They have to provide fire service whether they want to or not, It's the Law. I realize they have a very small tax base, but using funds for parks and recreation areas that was alotted for Fire dept equipment put them in this postion. Maybe they should look to there leadership and start asking questions!

Boro President has backed themselves into a spot and can not figure out how to get out of it without trying to give their problem to other municipalities. They keep asking about accountability, who is accountable for all the wasted money on lawsuites and appeals that were lost. President is more worried about updating parks and recreation than having updated equipment for firefighting capability. They bit off their nose to spite their face.......

Its a shame that all this trouble came about becauce 4 people who did not have power,(in the fire dept) wanted it, so they made false accusations about other people stealing money (which was never proving) so they could have power, If the borough officials would just get rid of those 4 people and make the fire comp and fire dept one organization again, 15 fire personel (that quit because of all the bs)would come back

Coplay is an independent borough. It is part of the Whitehall-Coplay School District, so borough residents pay property taxes to that entity, but all fire and police coverage is handled by the borough.

Actually, YOU are incorrect. What they have is a mutual aid agreement. An agreement made between coplay and whitehall and northampton, etc. Alot of boroughs and municipalities have it. So, once again, YOU are incorrect.

Wow. For an "instructor" you sure don't know how to spell. Show me the proof where coplay spent firefighting money on recreation. If you knew anything about grants and such, you would know those monies are watched by higher authorities for proper use.

Sorry I was thinking about what I was writing about, We all can't be perfect. So what happened to the monies that they were suppose to be putting away for a fire engine, or what happened to the grants that the borough was suppose to be applying for to get new equipment. Oh, Thats right, it's more important to have parks, then to protect your citizens homes. I understand!

What is the current quality of fire protection in the boro?? Is there a chance that this is may be a safety issue as well as a money issue? Why is the boro so dead set on closing this station? Something just isn't right here.Something else is going on.

DID YOU NOT READ MY POSTING ABOUT WHATS REALLY GOING ON? THERE ARE 4 PEOPLE IN THE FIRE DEPT, THAT 3 YEARS AGO DID NOT HAVE ANY POWER (AND THEY WANTED POWER!!) SO THEY MADE UP ACCUSATIONS ABOUT OTHER PEOPLE STEALING MONEY SO THOSE PEOPLE WOULD BE THRONE OUT AND THEY (MEANING THE 4 PEOPLE WHO ARE IN CHARGE OF THE FIRE DEPT NOW) COULD BE IN POWER!!!!!!

Well, once again, if you knew what you were talking about you would know that it's the fire departments job to apply for the grants. Also, since hurricane katrina, the government has been very stingy with their handouts to fire departments. The govenment wants people too consolidate their fire departments. But, once again, you spoke without knowing. I feel bad for you.

How would you know? No one ever said anything about anyone stealing money. It's NOT about power. Sounds to me like your jealous. Maybe YOU wanted that power.

Of those 4 that you say have so called POWER, there is 1 that does not. So you BETTER get your gd facts straight. Got it. It is not a power issue. You need to wake up and smell the coffee.

Yes I understand what You said, My question is on the current QUALITY of the protection. As far as accusations go it sounds like your making some prety hefty ones. SO I will ask again, do we currently have adequate fire protection?
