Copiague teen found dead from gunshot wound to head

Police are investigating a Copiague homicide in which a 17-year-old resident was found dead in a car in front of his house.

I'd like to know why this kid's name gets immediately put into the report and in, let's say, Hempstead, the victims name is withheld until further notification. Just curious, no cynicism here.

Excellent question. He's also a minor - shouldn't the identity of a minor who is a victim of a crime be protected? And thanks for printing his address, too - nice one, Newsday.

I disagree. I think Newsday post names regardless of the victim...But they do select which articles you can respond to and ones they don't. Mainly because the post turns into a racist views instead of the topic itself.

Convicted Wall of Shame - People get a grip, yes, these people did wrong but they are paying for it with their sentence.They must have a good job. Any descent job could fire the person for having a misdemenor. These people have a problem and need help to better themselves. They will be getting help with support from probation, 10 step program, restricted license. Not to have life be made harder for them to be more productive. Posting pictures on a wall should be for peopled wanted for crimes not for people who are paying for their crimes.

He was shot at the Pinelawn Ave location and then a friend drove him to his home on Pleasantview Ct.

Why his friend drove him home after he got shot in the head instead of immediately calling 911 is beyond me.

So how much is the bet that this kid was involved with drugs? Let me know when the pool starts.

I think it sounds like that due to Newsdays reporting, my guess is though he was a passenger in the car and the driver drove away from the shooting to his house.

Could be, it might actually make sense if the article stated there was a friend who was driving, or if there was a friend there. Friggin' newsday reporters!! I guess this is what should be called "interactive reporting", they give the readers nothing and we are free to write our own stories, LOL.

The delay involves the mandatory notification of next-of-kin. Once this is satisfied the name, age, address, and occupation, of a victim can be released as well as general circumstances of a crime. Sex crimes victims are protected. I don't think age has anything to do with the release as in a JD under 16 being charged. Juvenile offenders less than 16 are treated as adults and those names are released.

This often aids cops because those reading media accounts often call in tips.

That boy was somebody's son, grandson, brother, cousin, friend, boyfriend, yet all you people can think of was lets place bets on it being drug related and lets criticize his 18 year old friend for doing what he thought would help save his best friend. you guys should all be ashamed of yourselves.

I would like to start out addressing the many inaccuracies in this report. One being the time of the incident because I was on the corner watching the police and ambulances pull up long before 11:35 pm. And I would also like to address the heartless people who have commented without thinking about the friends and family of Joey. You obviously havent put yourself in the shoes of his friend either. After seeing his best friend shot infront of him, rushing him 3 streets over to his home was the best possible thing to do. I ask you people to please have some respect for the family and friends of Joey.
