Runner should have left the i-pod at home. 1st rule of runner security...always be aware of your surroundings...can't be aware with an i-pod stuck in your ear.

I agree with everything John, Tom and Bill have written. I work at St. Vincent's and for years would come to work early so I could walk( I carried pepper spray), for my health, down along the river, past St. Catherines and make the loop back to the hospital via the ER. There was always a great deal of foot traffic with joggers from the YMCA and I always felt safe.Then, one morning , I was almost mugged and that was the end of my walking. During all the years I walked I never once saw any police presence in the area and I can't help but wonder if regular patrols in Riverside would make any difference. I realize that with police cutbacks ,patrolling the streets of Riverside are a low priority. It just seems such a shame that because of thugs we are having to give up so many simple pleasures in life.

I wonder where the article is detailing the other muggings, robberies, and rise in vandalism that has occurred in Riverside in past weeks? Cutbacks in the police force doesn't help preventing the uprise of these crimes in our neighborhood!
