On the side hill south of Rockwells Mills, there is stone cross laid out is stone high on the side hill. Today the cross is not visible as brush and trees block the viewing of it. The cross is located on the west side of rt. eight and on the northern end of the mound. For years in the 1950's and 1960's it was kept painted and I was wondering if anyone knew who put it there and why. I had heard rumors regarding a vigilante group in the early 1900's had something to do with it but have now information other that rumor. you can reach me at [email protected] if you want to discuss this.
