The Lake House...

After seeing many advertisements and specials for Mother's Day, I decided to take my family to The Lake House for the mothers day brunch. Knowing that they had just gained a new chef; who used to be the excutive chef from the Otesage Resort in Cooperstown, we had had high hopes for our meal. Upon arrival we were crammed into their very poorly set-up dining room/ buffet. Due to lack of space we still remained positive. Our table had not been set an an older gentleman dresssed in "biker" attire with bare hands set up our glasses and silverware, which was a turn off. If you are going to be working a buffet in a restaurant you are expected to look presentable, and he was not.
We than had gotten our drinks which were all fine, except the water. It was sulfer water tasted like rotten eggs and was not even able to be consumed. Finally, we went to the buffet. Sadly to say it was the worst presentation, and lack of food I have ever seen at a restaurant. There was nothing left in any of the chaffing dishes, the dishes that did have minimal food were not even hot and the burners were turned off. Still remaining positive, we said maybe they are in the process of refilling so we ate what little we were able to get and waited to see if more food was going to be put out. Taking a second trip to the buffet, there was still no food put out. Finally we gave in a said we would have some of the pasta that a chef on the line was preparing to your order. While waiting my turn in the short line I noticed that the chef was doing everything with his hands without gloves on. Knowing the restaurant business and how things work, especially in front of customer making ready to eat food, it is a MUST that you need to be wearing gloves. So I kindly removed myself from this line.
Needless to say it was a $20.oo per person buffet for which my family and I had only had a few vegtable, cold potatoes, along with beverages that tasted like egg salad. We got our check of $160.00 plus a tip for a waitrerss who was rushed and uninvolved with our service. We left very unsatisfied and displeased. Being a resident of Richfield Springs, and knowing there is a chef of such high caliber comming from a Resort in Cooperstown our expectation were way higher. By the end of our visit it is sad to say that I will never be going to or suggesting the Lake House to anyone I know. Its a shame to see a local business in such bad shape and condition after many many years of service.

It's never been good. Never will be. I've lived in Richfield all my life and have only been there once, and trust me that was enough!!

We try the lake house once a year, HOPING each year that it has improved and we can go more regularly. We live in the area and would love to support local businesses. However, it is such a waste of time and money each time,! Awful service. Mediocre at best food. Dirty and just bad overall. Could be such a gem..... A true shame
