LET TENANTS BEWARE OF THE GAUGING GOING ON WITH ADVERTISEMENTS BY LANDLORDS ON CRAIGSLIST!
IF YOU NEED A LAUGH, GO TO CRAIGSLIST, APARTMENTS BY OWNERS-NO BROKERS.........
THESE LANDLORDS ARE ACTING SLICK BY SAYING NO BROKERS, BUT LOOK AT THE PRICES? THEY MUST THINK PEOPLE IN GENERAL ARE JUST PLAIN STUPID.
3 BEDS.$2200 RENT?
2 BEDS.$1700 RENT, AND YOU HAVE TO PAY HEAT TOO.
TENANTS WOULD BE WISER TO GO TO A LOCAL REALTOR, PAY A FEE AND PAY A NORMAL RENT, AND SAVE $5 GRAND PER YEAR ON RENT+EXPENSES.

you are right about craigslist. The rents advertised are $500-$700 above the going rent? People aren't stupid.
Shop on Hot Pads, or Find my roof, or just go to any Real Estate office and see plenty of selections.

attention Landlords......Today more than ever you must be careful who comes to see your apartment.
There are those few who could be potentially unworthy of being your tenant.
Ask this question. Where do you live now? How long have you resided there?
Why are you moving? Where did you live before this?(if less than 3 months at new apartment). Forget about where they work. But if a constant moving pattern develops, something is obvious that that person is unstable!
Get close to the person coming to your home. See if you smell alcohol.
This is no joke folks. Be sure you conduct your own credit check.
Know the income of that individual. Even if they come with a agent or Broker.
REMEMBER, THEY WILL LIVE IN YOUR BUILDING.
PLENTY OF ALCOHOLICS GOING AROUND, PEOPLE WITH MENTAL PROBLEMS, AND ERATIC MOOD SWINGS.
BEWARE!

Once CRAIGSLIST,NY WAS A HELPFUL TOOL, A WEB SITE WHERE CUSTOMERS/ TENANTS COULD LOOK FOR AN APARTMENT.
RESULTS: NOW A PURE DUMPING GROUND FOR OVER PRICED APARTMENTS,
CHRONIC SPAMMING OF THE SAME ADS WEEK AFTER WEEK FOR MONTHS.
BY ADVERTISING UNDER BY OWNERS-NO BROKERS, LANDLORDS USUING IT TO THEIR BENEFIT BY MAKING THE CONSUMER BELIEVE THEY ARE SAVING THE COMMISSION.
NOT SO! IF THEY ARE CHARGE $300 DOLLARS TO $500 DOLLARS MORE FOR THE APARTMENT, TENANTS PAY OVER $3-5,000 DOLLARS MORE YEARLY THAN THE GOING RENTS.
BUT TENANTS AREN'T THAT GULLIBLE!
THEY DO SHOP AROUND. AND REALTORS ON METROPOLITAN AVENUE, HAVE THE SAME ADVERTISED APARTMENTS SIZE WISE, AND MUCH LOWER RENTS.
IF YOU PAID A REALTOR ONE MONTHS RENT, FOR EXAMPLE PURPOSES, SAY $1500 DOLLARS, AND PAY RENT OF $1500 FOR A 2 BEDROOM APARTMENT, RATHER THAN PAY $1900, OR $1980 AS SOME ADVERTISE, THAT IS A $4,800 DOLLAR SAVINGS FOR THE YEAR IN RENT.
THEN YOU HAVE SOME AGENTS/BROKERS FALSELY ADVERTISING UNDER BY OWNER, ON CRAIGSLIST, BUT THEY CHARGE A FEE. WHY? TO AVOID PAYING A LOSUY $10 DOLLAR ADVERTISEMENT FEE.
THOSE OF YOU WHO WISH TO DEAL WITH SHADY CHARACTERS BE MY GUEST!
HOWEVER, THERE IS A BRIGHT SIDE TO ALL OF THIS.
JUST PASS BY ANY REALTORS OFFICE ON METROPOLITAN AVENUE, AND LOOK AT THEIR WINDOW DISPLAY. YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR AND SAVE IN THE LONG RUN.

update:02/05/13 Many qualified tenants are now on a waiting list.
Better to list with a local Realtor, have control and know who is coming and by appointment. less headaches for sure than renting on your own.

reply.......When looking for an apartment in specific areas, go to the areas and register at a Realtor's office there.
