Can anyone recommend an affordable and reputable company in the area? I would like to get an estimate but there so are many local companies offering driveway sealing I don't know who to call first. I am hoping someone has had experience and could offer suggestion as to who is worth calling for an estimate. My driveway is about 120' long and 10' wide. Thanks in advance!

I'm suprised you didn't have any of those companies knock on your door already they are vultures. They have a short season so they pound the pavement and knock on doors all over.

Whatever you do make sure you get an oil based sealer not the water based stuff that will fade away in one or two summers.

Precisely my point. They are a dime a dozen and this is why I am looking for a referral rather than taking a shot in the dark. I understand most of them are fly-by-nighters who offer a great price for a lowsey product. DCI (driveway Concepts, Inc.) out of Quakertown seems like an established company. At least their website is decent and I have seen their signs around town. Has anyone used them before?

DCI is awful! They paved our driveway 2 years ago, within a month there were large cracks and divets. We tried to have them come out to repair and they have constantly dodged our calls. We are still calling twice a week, with no results (again, 2 years later). Not only were repairs supposedly included in the price, but it was supposed to be sealed as well. I would advise you to find someone else.

Thanks for the input, folks! I will call Jet Black today. DCI gave me an estimate of $170 to sealcoat my 1180sq.ft. driveway. This is less than I was anticipating but like they say- "you get what you pay for". I am going to get a couple more estimates and compare. From speaking with other companies, I have found their description of work and materials used to be virtually identical. I am beginning to think I am over analyzing this whole thing. I guess the only things I need to hope for is that they are neat, achieve even coverage, and that it doesn't rain within 24 hours. Anyone other than Jet Black that you guys would recommend?

I had these guys pull up and ask. I was just going to post this same question. This happens quite often. I would rather go with a local reputable outfit than these drive up guys who you don't know.

A lot of folks are doing it themselves...might be the more affordable way to go, and you can watch the weather and adjust on the fly.

Hi. I would like to give you some free information about driveway sealing. The reasons for sealing are simple. Sealer will protect your driveway from petroleum products. Petroleum is corrosive, therefore, when autos leak gas, OIL, etc., it corrodes the tar, which is the bonding agent in the asphalt, which of course leads to loose sand and gravel instead of asphalt. Why then would you coat your entire driveway with a petroleum based, oil formulated driveway sealer? Sealer also protects the driveway (somewhat) from the sun directly baking it to pieces, although sealer increases the surface temperature, so it's a trade off. The most important thing sealer does is to not allow water to run through your driveway. Water is the driveway's biggest enemy. It can run through and wash out your base, and it can freeze and thaw causing severe damage. And sealer makes your place look pretty. It really does. Sealer should be brushed on by hand when possible. It's common sense if you've ever painted anything. Spraying the top of a rough surface will not stop one drop of water. I'm done.

I used Caraballo Quality Sealcoating out off Sellersville. They were fair and reasonable out of the three estimates I got. They applied a nice brush application. I will used them again in the future.

If you have ever used anyone that goes around door to door then you probably paid twice the going rate and were given some inferior product. The whole game of these guys is to catch people off guard who don't know prices.

The usual pitch is "we can do it right now" so most people think they are getting a low bid when most likely they are paying double and for sloppy and thin coat work. They also like to say that you have latex for the old but they will be using an oil based product that is far superior.

On a side note, have used "DCI" for sealcoat work with no issues.

DCI repaved my driveway 5 years ago. That whole process went ok, however they "splashed" a fair amount of blacktop on my lawn. I got over it and the lawn grew back. Two years ago I called them to come seal it... the never showed up or called. Last year, I called again for sealing and they still had my quote from the year prior. Again, they never showed or called. I'm kind of thick-headed, so I called them again this year. The quote went up, which I didn't argue with. They told me they would call me Sunday May 3rd with a specific date for that week. I had to call them on May 5th and they told me I was on the schedule for Saturday (gee, thanks for letting me know and/or checking if that was ok). We had a big bbq planned for that day and they said that they would come on Sunday May 10th instead. They also said they'd call the day before to confirm. Well, the whole weekend passed with no call and no sealing. I called them this morning and am still waiting for that call back. These guys are terrible. How they manage to still be in business is beyond me. I don't think they ever once called me or called me back. All I did was chase them down. I'm slow, I know, but I am finally moving on...

Try SureSeal. They are out of the Doylestown area. Good work at a fair price! And they actually show up and do the job.
