Live on Main Street and see how you like all the traffic coming through, people not abiding the speed limit-it's a neighborhood for [email protected] Sakes! It [email protected] Noise, huge trucks--all to be backed up at the light at Fairmont Street.

What is your definition of major? If 309 handles 47,000+ cars/day, does Main St handle a similar amount? I don't think so.
Do you realize what 47,000+ cars in one day on Main Street would do to Coopersburg? It's hardly a MAJOR artery.

Yeah I do realize what it would do ..Just look at 309 currently..
309 is soo screwed up YES indeed Main would turn into a major artery .. Besides the fact before this mess people would use Main when 309 was shut down .. I have been detoured off to there many times to take to Q-town.. You are also talking truck/Bus traffic besides to volume of cars.. Also before anyone starts thier truck rage Penn dot should have kept Main open to allow cars off 309 and keep trucks on 309 further alleviating some of the traffic volume/nightmare that is currently going on...They need to get that bridge open and NOT start another project till 309 is completed..Futhermore this oct 2010 completion is nuts they need to work around the clock to get this or the bridge completed to get some relief on these roads..Drivers are out of control in that area running up the shoulders ,not paying attention and cutting through parking lots like race tracks..

NO thought what-so-ever was put into these projects and traffic issues by Penn Dot once again..

And put down the beer while you're at it.
According to the PennDOT website, Main Street has 8,500 vehicles per day.

The grocery store would be a lot more accesible if there weren;t so many people illegally cutting through the parking lot at Weis to get to Fairmont to only turn left to go back out to 309 so they can get 8 cars in front of where they were. And you really have to love the people who drive the shoulder to turn right at the light only to find the curbing

I witnessed someone flying up on the right and then having to lock up the brakes when they saw the curb this morning. Got a good laugh out of that.
It's gonna get alot worse before it gets better.

Have you thought of WALKING to the grocery store? If you truly live in the "center of Coopersburg" there are two BIG grocery stores within blocks of Center-City-Coopersburg. Note: Blocks - not miles.
Quit your whining and put your feet to the pavement!
As a matter of fact I DID try WALKING to the WEIS, just yesterday. Guess What! I DA MN near got run down by the traffic on Fairmount Street. And had to dodge the new throughway that has been created in the Weis SHORTCUT. HEY CPD you may want to check that out, imagine the revenue.

Was sucked into this mess once. Not again. Will stick to turnpike until construction complete.

It's your best bet. I tried several different routes, trying to salvage what I could of my 309 to 378 connection in Coopersburg. Every one left me muttering "...huge F'in mistake..."

People also need to realize that there are "2" lanes till the convergence to 1 lane .. the law says use both lanes to merge point then alternate in single lane .. HOWEVER there are many that will DELIBERATLY ride in both lanes restricting traffic flow .. Believe it or not this further screws up traffic more.. Those that choose to do this may one day find themselves on the side of the road when the police pull them over for it...

Another way to go is to take Richlandtown Pike out to Hellertown, and pick 78 up from there.

Try going up Old Beth. Pike to the light at Fairmont St in Coopersburg (it's the light before the detour sign) and take this to 309.

The other way is to take Richlandtown Pike to Passer Rd to 309 (takes you out at the Peppercorn).

They have total of 10 people working and 7 of them are standing doing nothing.
And why can't they fix the Fairmont Street traffic light, it turns green even if nobody is on the street. They should allow more time for 309 traffic, the whole mess starts at that light for south bound and ends there for northbound. Come on PENNDOT, you guys are the genious.

And, they get better pay than most other working people!
