Just wanted any info anyone can give me. Do you like livinging in Cooper? What internet providers are avaliable?

I noticed you do have a grocery store there. Do you think it has most of the things you need and are prices okay?

Thanks in advance for any comments you have or information you can give me.

Cooper isn't necessarily a BAD place to live, but the people here can be quite nosy.(As is the case in any small town.) Century Link and Cumby Telephone offer internet service. Delta Supermarket is a small, friendly grocery store, but it can be expensive. Lots of their merchandise tends to be out of date, so be sure to check that before you purchase something.

I hated living in Cooper there is nothing for the kids to do but walk the streets, you have to watch things in your yard or they disappear...and the prices at the grocery store are a bit on the high side and the meat is terrible, you really have to be careful what you buy. I would never move back there its a terrible place to live.

I have lived in Cooper all my life and I love it. Sure it has its flaws but doesn't every town??? The grocery store tries to keep up in what we need and the meat department is just as good as Brookshires. I buy nearly all my meat there. The Dollar General is a lifesaver!!! It makes going out of town a treat!!

I was wondering, how far is the nearest large store, like Brookshires or Wal Mart?

Cooper sounds like a nice little town. I'm retired, so jobs are not a problem. I have good health insurance - is there a good doctor in Cooper? I'm ready for a slower pace and less traffic.

Thanks so much to everyone for their help.

The closest Walmart is in Commerce about 18 miles from Cooper and there is a Brookshires there too. There is bigger Walmart in Sulphur Springs and Paris and they both have Brookshires. Welcome to Cooper!!

The meat department at Delta is as good as you can get. The produce department is getting much better and is more than satisfactory. They even have Blue Bell ice cream. LOL

Cooper could stand a lot of improvement, true, but there are mostly good caring people who live here.

Our schools are modern and staffed with some really good teachers.

Property taxes are high, mainly due to lack of natural mineral deposits, and a lack of manufacturing or other large businesses.

Overall, I rate it just fine for the most part, with some room for improvements which may someday come.

I am not attempting to cause aggravation or a lengthy debate over what was said. I was just curious as to what a new sheriff would do to make the county a safer place to live? No disrespect intended, just curious.

I'm glad to hear you have a police department that is serious about crime. Pairs Texas was a town on my list of possible places to retire until I saw the crime rate. It is amazing to me how HIGH the crime rate is there. Paris has more places to shop and health care options than Cooper, but the high rate of crimes in Paris just makes it not somewhere I'd want to live.

Cooper sounds like a pretty good retirement place, and I think retired people would be good for Cooper. I have great health insurance and enough money to retire and be comfortable. I have no desire to find a job but I might want to do volenteer work or something like that. In other words I want to bring money into Cooper, buy goods and services but not take up a job from yonger people.

That brings up another question, is there a lawn care service that works in Cooper? How about about service people like plumbers and companies that do home repair? See, I want to provide jobs. LOL. But seriously, I think more retired folks would help small businesses in the area.

The city of cooper does not have its own police department like it should. It expects the 1-2 deputies the sheriffs office has working to stay in the cooper city limits 24/7 instead of patrolling throughout the county too. What's sad is towns like Como and Lone Oak are at least half the size of cooper and dirt poor and still have their own police departments

I haven't moved to Cooper, I'm still in the "looking" stage, but thank you so much for answering. Knowing that there are lawn care and home repair services avaliable makes Cooper a solid retirement option for me. Hopefully in the next few weeks I'll get to visit the town again.

Well, whatever Cooper is doing, it must be working since Cooper has a low crime rate. Maybe Paris should try the Cooper model - there crime rate is scary high. LOL

BTW, I looked up Como and Lone Oak - both seem to higher Murder rates than Cooper. The Lone Oak burgular rates are higher than Cooper too. Maybe people in Cooper are just better citizens, but it looks like the system is working.

Think about this... if there is one murder in Como and Lone Oak, obviously the murder rate would be higher if there were no murders committed in Cooper. At least they have law enforcement worth talking about in Lone Oak and Como.

But they still have more crime even though they are smaller and have their own police. I didn't check line item by line item, but Lone Oak did have more burgular crime than Cooper too. With less people and their own dedicated police you would think both Como and Lone Oak would have way less crime in all areas because their law enforcement keeps crime out of the towns.

Since I don't live in the area I just may be not understanding the situation, but from the data it looks like there is nothing wrong with the way Cooper is handling crime. And having their own police does not look like it is buying Como or Lone Oak a thing. But maybe the people that live there fell safer. IDK <shurg>

Now if the police in Como and Lone Oak are getting more criminals put behind bars and off their streets, THAT would say their law enforcment is doing a better job. And maybe that is the case. I guess the real question is do people in Cooper feel safe or are there crimes that are not reported?

Yeah you feel safe if you agree with the 2nd amendment and own personal protection. Cooper is not a bad place. We just need more police. One or two deputies ib a shift are not enough even though this is a small county. I like living here, the town just needs to be cleaned up. And a lot of the people need to learn to mind their own business...

como and lone oak have a police department because they're in bigger and better counties. we could have one to if we would split the county between hopkins and lamar. it would also lower our taxes significantly
