For those of you who are unaware or just don't care to realize there are thousands of people in the US who claim to be combat veterans and veterans of foreign wars. Not only that there are a few living in this very little town claiming to have served and earned the campaign medals and even take the lies as far as wearing the incorrect unearned rank insignia on their dishonored uniforms. If you the readers are one of which I speak of it would behoove of you to take precautions when wearing and claiming medals for false deployments to a combat zone. The FBI have helped design a website devoted to putting stolen valor thieves into the justice system. So folks if you are out there and someone you know or think you may know claims to be a combat veteran of the wars in Iraq or Afghanistan don't feel afraid or hesitate to ask that individual for solid proof. The easiest way to do this is to ask that person if you may see their military form DD-214. This form tells all and will annotate on the left side of the document where and when this person served and will also announce what ribbons/medals where awarded for service. So please you as an American should not allow this valor to be stolen. Instead interrogate these liars and preserve the title Combat Veteran for those who made sacrifice and truly served in combat.

Sorry to inform you that MANY DD214's are bogus, esp when prsented by someone you are already suspicious of. Phonies have come a long way from white out and copies. Have dozens and dozens that have been turnd in to law enforcement as forgeries to match a fairy tale. The only thing a DD214 is good for is a base point to write National Personnel Records Center (NPRC) undr FOIA for an actual copy of the records. IF they match, you have a good DD214. If not, turn them in to FBI. The POW Network has alot of the phony documents on their lists as evidence of the lies for the people they post as frauds.

Well I am sorry to inform you that I have personally and successfully reported two individuals already for claiming to be so called vets. Guess how I did it?? Hmm I wonder.

Sorry to inform you "TheRegulator", but you are assuming that phonies, including the actual war vets always carry a DD214 on them..but guess what they don't. Most, sorry majority keep them in files! You can go up to a real war vet and ask them for theirs and they will more than likely laugh at you.

Grandpa served 27 years active duty Navy Sea Bees carried his 214 form with him everywhere. You'd be a moron not to carry it everywhere you go. Its a sure way to confirm your service. Ever been to a VA hospital? First thing they ask for at a out patient clinic is..hmm I wonder what a DD 214. Either way you ppl aren't getting the point. If you have family or close friends who are indeed legit vets of a foreign war then yes..no doubt there's no need to ask for proof of there 214 form. On the other hand if you are not 100 percent sure about a stranger or a friend of a friend then ask for their 214. Pressure the he'll out of them. Ask what base they stopped at before transferring from a commercial flight to a military flight. All I'm saying is there are pieces of shits out there reaping the benefits right now when they don't deserve it and I'll be damned if I will let it go when I have the means. So instead of getting on here and bumping your gums try offering up additional advice on how to catch a poser.

I do agree that there are lots of stupid idiots out there that reap the benefits as you said that don't deserve them. That pisses me off too. My whole family including my spouses family have all been in the military at one point or another, including several friends, and the only time I have ever seen them carry it is at the VA hospital, or a job interview. Other than that to keep from them accidentally losing it, they have always kept them in files so someone doesn't steal it and take their identity as easily. We are gonna agree and disagree on things. But that's the great thing about this forum. It puts others opinions out there. I was stating facts as well because I have been asked people who claim to be in the military for their info and most of the time they just laugh at you. That's why when I get someone's name that can't prove it. I take it to someone I know for a fact is in the Military and can look them up and know 100% for sure if they are or not.. And I have caught 5 people who gave me their names and found out who were lieing about it and they got their justice. And i wasn't "bumping my gum's" I still have all of my (real) teeth :D And just because someone doesn't offer up advice like you want, doesn't mean they aren't being informative. There are more people out there doing things and just as angry as you are about people doing this than you may care to think.

Supreme Court morons uphold the notion to lie about military service and shot down the stolen valor act of 2005 allowing these fake ass war vets to parade around with medals they have never earned?? Makes me sick to know that all my time spent gettin my ass shot off at in Iraq can jus just be one upped by some liar that thinks its ok. Wtf has this country come to. All this aside if I run accross another p o s liar that pretends to have served in combat I guess I will just have to do the govts job for them and make sure everyone knows they are a liar. Im disgusted. Looks like ol' painter, walker and mead can all go back to fabricating more war stores. Lol

Not true. Been in multiple fire fights with al Queda fighters..as well as my buddies. I only know a hand full of persons who dont care to comment. Either way u comin back with that isnt the point of the topic at hand. The point is our country cant seem to get their shit together. Allowing ppl to lie about their service? Its allowed because of free speech? 1st ammendment my ass. Guess come 2013 i will just go ahead and lie on my taxes..claim a lot of non sense.

Why not just go on and be proud of your service and live your own life.

You act as though someone owes you something. They don't.

Thats not what I'm gettin at you idiot. Where in my post did you read that I demanded I was owed anything? I am more than proud of my service. I was merely making a post about how our country..our govt allows our combat vets to walked all over. I was only stating I am disgusted that it is now no longer a violation of the law to go around making up fake stories about days spent in a combat zone. Its ungreatful ppl such as yourself who sleep well in their cozy beds at night probably unaware of the persons half a world away that stand ready to do just violence on your behalf in the name of freedom. Still think you dont owe them anything? Even before I had served in Iraq I made it a point to go out of my way and shake a hand of a person who fought their ass off for my well being. But ultimately it is a slap in the face for us few.

Let meyou start offout by saying I am a big supporter of our military and law enforcement like any American should be. I am glad the U.S. has plenty of men and women who stand ready to defend the country, but how is it that men and women are half way around the world, ready to engage in violent acts for my freedom? How is the military being in the middle east protecting American citizens?

Oh no here we go. We dont belong in Iraq..blah blah we are involved with ppl we dont need to be involved in. So what you are saying is you'd rather the enemy bring the war to our front and backyards? Thats why we are on foreign soil. You take the fight to the enemy. As for tell you how service members are across the world ready to violence on your behalf?? I dont think if you cant figure that out yourself then you just go on continue being un-American you retard. Look at our history idiot! F*kin ppl like u are a great example of what are constitution has come to represent.

Since about 1973, there has been NO ONE drafted into the Army or any other branch.

Everyone who enlists, does so at their own choosing. You get paid to do the job you applied for. End of story. You are not special. You are not anything but a hired hand. True, you may do your job well, but that's it. You are not more entitled to vote, or be a citizen, or any other thing.

Post up YOUR service record. Let us see how much of the shiot you been in. Like you say. It is easy to talk and make up a story. Maybe you are doing it also.
