i think scotty is doing ok with what he has to work with. look around, do u see anyone moving into cooper,.....well besides alot of trash? does cooper have anything to offer a family? nothing much for the kids to do here except get into trouble. no jobs. no money comming in to the county. get out of the city of cooper and take a drive, there are abandoned houses all over delta county and not very many building new homes. trash is taking over! 20 years ago this town had potential, a new lake comming in, bringing money into the county!.....we let it turn into quinlan, west tawakoni! thats not good! at least quinlan is growing with resturaunts and a new walmart! what DOES cooper have? trash, abandoned homes & businesses, thiefs, and drugs. we cant afford to hire enough law enforcement. thats just sad! i hear alot of people are just going to start becomming their own law enforcement. maybe we should all do that. DONT turn ur heads ppl of delta county! someone will just take your sutff and sell it! unless they meet up with colt, or smith & wesson first! when was the last time u made a donation to the fire dept? to the parks and recreation dept? to the library? ems? or even the sherriffs dept? well.......what do u say delta county? lets take back our county!

When is the city gonna fix some of these roads and sidewalks with these tax dollars we are spending? I have yet to see any improvement on any of them, also the over grown trees down the public sidewalks..nothing has been done about it in years..How many of us in Cooper would like to see our money going back into the city for improvements I definetly would.

Yes the public should be more aware of their neighbors Drugs Theives and if one got shot they would all fall in line..I totally agree with your statement except for all the Rookie Police they have here its not lack of funds to hire new or enough officers Its that these officers that we have are just under qualified and/or inexperienced.

No, I don't think so. I think Scotty & the entire city council should be run off. Look at the streets. When the city has to repair water leaks, they fill the holes back in with red rock and do a rat poor job at that, too. What do their streets look like? It's really hard to keep a front end under a car on most of the streets? Where's all the stop signs? the street ID signs? What's up with all the basketball goals in the streets? It's going to get someone hurt. Why do you see city vehicles being driven around on the weekends? Are they for personal use, too? Look at the trashy and/or abandoned houses all over town. What have they done to improve tax revenue in this town? No big companies. A few cafes up town is not the same as a good resource for local jobs. Taxes are way too high for what we get in return. Cooper is turning into a dump ground and all of the trash is gathering here. We need stricter codes (if there is any), and someone to enforce them that's not on the "good buddy system" meaning that "if you're my friend, I'll let it slide". My wife & I work very hard to keep our house & yard in good shape & appealing to drivers' by, because we take pride in what we have. I certainly wish I could say that for all home owners in Cooper. Where is your pride? I've lived here my entire life and love Cooper, but hate seeing get run down more and more each and every passing day. I know that I'm going to get a lot of crap over this, but it is just my humble opinion. I'm pay my taxes, so I'm entitled to it. Remember, you asked. Scotty & his crew have gotten way too comfortable in their postions and have gotten lazy. He (they) certainly need to get up off their lazy a$$es and go back to work for their employers, the voters that put him there. He is like the majority of the others, just there for a pay check. Now, don't get me wrong, he is a nice person, but as a mayor........ he su***!

There are more than adequate ordinances on the city books to alleviated most of the ills in Cooper.

They cover:

Abandoned vehicles
Dilapidated houses
Trash in plain sight
Overgrown lots and yards

Not taking sides, as I like Scotty, but the tools are there. The mayor has to have the support of the City Council to be effective in correcting some of these problems. I see little of that happening at this time. Too much apathy.

The houses in some neighborhoods are a disgrace! Some need tearing down immediately. They are not only an eyesore but are dangerous. If kids were to go in them they would be in danger. They make the good houses around them look bad.

With a proactive council, the city removed nearly one hundred dilapidated houses some 20 years ago.

The biggest complaint came from the county and school board that too much revenue from property taxes was being lost. These houses didn't pay much, but they paid some.

The city actually saved a considerable amount of lost services (water, sewer, trash) as the scum who lived in them wouldn't pay their bills. Some of these same lots that had the old houses on them, now have better houses on them, and they pay taxes.

It takes leadership from the council. The mayor is actually powerless without it. Fuss at them.

I'm ashamed of Cooper. We look like a slum town. We've got to turn this town around.

I like him as a person. But why pay 50k a year for a mayor. A lot of cities have mayors that are unpaid. Cut that salary in half and pay what other elected officials make in our county. Use the other half for other expenses.....just sayin...

Stop your bitching, cause if ANYONE thinks they can do a better job, then you need to run for Mayor. Lived here for 4 years now and can only say get your ass out there and run for Mayor if you think you can do a better job then what is being doing now or just shut the hell up about how Cooper is being run.

Why in the world would kids go into places/houses that they dont need to be at in the first place?

Cause a majority of their patents don't pay attention, and could care less where they are or what they're doing.

I didnt know we still had a mayor. Everytime I call to talk to him he is gone. If I call he is gone. The way Cooper has gone down in the last 20 years I thought the office had been vacated.

Existing codes need to be enforced. Junky, trashy houses need to be cited. Barking dogs should be cited. How many dogs should one be allowed to have? Just because they have them penned, we can still hear them bark all night. It is not all the mayor's duty, but a strong leader could encourage the other city employees to do a better job. Those houses that have furniture in the yard, on the porch, and in the drive, are a disgrace. Folks, you don't have to act like white trash ALL the time!

Just for folk's information. There is a dilapidated house between SW 8th and 9th, that a tree is down on. The house is slowly being crushed by the tree. There are young people going inside and doing things they shouldn't. This property is terrible and an eyesore. Just sayin, this is one of many.
