There was one in Columbia Heights. They had the coolest game room. Many days were spent shooting pool, playing air hockey and pinball. Those were the days. Now all we have is super centers. What a waste!!!

Help! Across White Bear Ave (to the west) from Shopper's City in Maplewood was a chicken place called Jerry's Chicken, later Jerry's Family Restaurant. They boasted "Minnesota Fried Chicken" and had the absolute best chicken and onion rings I've had in the 35 years I went there.

A number of years ago they closed - with no notice that I was aware of. Anyone know what happened or - most importantly - where to get that great chicken again?

I remember the floor plan of the Brooklyn Center one like the back of my hand. We were one of the first houses in our development across Osseo Road (now Brooklyn Blvd) from it. I think it opened about the same time they built Garden City Elementary School next to it (c. 1960)-- I went to 4th & 5th grade there, and after school we would to to Shoppers City and look at all the stuff. It was really the first store in that area, except for a drug store and the tiny Lane & Ernst grocery store farther down Osseo Road. When Shoppers City opened we thought it was the greatest thing since sliced bread. There was a grocery store in it, and a bakery, drugstore, patio restaurant, big toy section, even a music section that sold records and sheet music. They sold clothes, too, and school supplies and almost everything else you could think of. There was even a kiosk that sold pop and soft serve ice cream cones. I remember a small cone was just a nickle. The barber shop was on an upper mezzanine/gallery level, where they also sold (if you can believe it) furniture.

Yea I remember shoppers city in Brooklyn enter. I worked in as a bag boy in the grocery department then in the toys/sporting goods then in the camera department for a total of 5 years. I was in the work program the last year I was there. The store manager Dell Holman tried to get me fired two times because I wasn't scared enough of him when he would shout out orders( his wife liked me). I fell in love with a little red head named Linda J. that worked in the jewelry department but I was too shy to tell her. Boy did I screw that up.

I was there also with my brothers, sister, mom and aunt. I was 4 at the time and main memory was of people standing looking at the sky in the parking lot. That wouldn't happen today I don't think.

My Dad use to like to go there and eat lunch at the one in Columbia Heights on Saturdays. I use to hate going there sorry. One time he yelled at this lady while we were sitting there for staring at us. God thought I was going to die. Kristine
