I was wondering if anybody else is having problems with TwinLakes DSL service. I have 1.5 down and 256 up. Most of the time I can get just barely above dial up but never 1.5 and I understand that they don't guarentee the speed but golly I should get close to 1MG. I go to 4 or 5 different sites to check the speed with the same result from each one. A big huge NEON sign that says "hey you, your internet sucks", well not really but that's the way I feel. Just wondering if other people are having the same problem. I don't know about most other people but if I pay for something I expect to get it and not the equivelent of something that costs alot less. Dial up is only around 20$ and I pay 50$ for it!!!! That's BULL!!!

Hello,
I have had the same problem for a while now. I called and complained and the service dept. was trying to ask me what I want them to do about it? As if I knew how solve my own problem. I am also suppose to have 1.5 download speeds on my DSL with 256 up. I am very consistent with my upload but my download jumps around like crazy. I use the Speedtest.net and test the closest being Morristown and it will range from 1000 kbps to 600 kbps which is crap. I use to have a great ping for my gaming but now it has almost tripled. The same goes for my online courses that I take for school. Sometimes I even time out while taking tests. You can contact me at Heartschamp@hotmail.com First name is Roger. But I am just like you if I am paying for it I should get the service without Twin Lakes trying to put the blame on the internet or pushing it off onto something other than their poor connection. I use HoverIP to traceroute the hops and different speedtests which are consistently showing the problems. Call me and maybe we can get together and raise a little hell!!

Chaarter sucks for us. We pay for 5 mg, we get like 2 on a good day. We have called so many times to find out why our internet speed sucks only to have them sign us up for some cable or phone service that we told them we didnt want. Our bill is always wrong. The people at the office here in town have been great to us, but whoever is up top can bite me.

How about the fact that Frontier has a monopoly on phone service and DSL in certain areas in and around Cookeville. The feds broke up the ATT monopoly 30 years ago to create competition. In other ares of the country, EG southeast Florida where the landline phone company is Bell South, other companies such as Earthlink sell their DSL over Bell South's lines. I can't even get Charter as I live too far out of their svc territory.

Many companies in FL and elsewhere offer 1st tier DSL for $14.95/month. Frontiers DSL lite is $39.95!!! More than twice the amount!!!!

Too bad people don't know that EarthLink is a company owned and operated by the Church of $cientology.

Also remember that when you load EarthLink's software, you can NOT get it completely out of your PC.$cientology wants to know what you're doing at ALL TIMES when you're online.

I have DSL lite with no monthly modem fee and it's $29.00. Evidently you didn't sign up when they had a promotional offer.

Do your homework Bob and call me in the morning.

I have Twinlakes DSL and it is the only internet service in my area since none of the other services are out her in the boonies where I am at. It is so slow. 2 years ago I was put on the list to get 6.0 and I still waiting for that. They havent even got the 3.0. It is faster than the dial up but not by much. If I could get Frontier I would at least I was able to do things on the computer in a flash. And the person who said we need to move do you want to pay for the cost of my deposit and my moving. And do you want to buy my house from me. I dont think you will but if interested I am in Livingston and you can let me know. I am fighting to get better service myself.

Why don't you try to curse twin lakes in the name of Anton Lavey? That might do some good....If it doesn't at least it'll make you feel better.

First, what is MG as in 1MG? That's not a unit for measuring bandwidth. Twin Lakes offers 1.5Mbps not 1MG. Second, for DSL to work properly you have to live within a certain distance from a substation. In recent years, this distance has been increased but some parts of Twin Lakes Service area is still out there.

I've had Twin Lakes DSL for a few years now, ever since it was offered in my area, and save a few times right after it was first installed have had great service. I can't say that my speed has ever dropped too low and stayed there, but my ping has and I just called the local office and they changed my settings since I'm a gamer.

For those experiencing problems I recommend the following - Is your computer loaded down with crap? Your router a crap brand?(Belkin, even Netgear?) Stick with Linksys. Do you understand the difference between Mbps and MB/s and kbps and KB/s? Has a technician been out to test the noise in your line to see if you are getting a clean signal?

The basic package won't appear to be that much faster than dial up and if you have crap on your computer then it will run even slower. I don't know how many computers I've cleaned up where the owner had complained that their "Internet" was slow. It's not the Internet, it's your computer.
