Everyone that is showing a lot of criticizing, lighten the hell up! Yes its hard to find a job, but your not superman, you cant be working all those hours, you need time to rest your body and relax so your ready for the next day. Your bosses arent cold blooded animals, and if they are, sue them, you can get a lawyer with all the hours you made, you got the right, and you can probably get some money out of it too. All you people who think they can pull it off, can go somewhere with your comments, pulling that off 365 days a year. Keep working like that, you wont have the job for long, because you will be DEAD by then. Obviously none of you dont know how hard it is to do that EVERY SINGLE day. So don't come with that crap.

All of you guys are fucking retarded instead of gloating of how much you guys work, you guys should be researching your laws. Your entitled to get paid time and half for working more than 7 days in a row with shifts of 8 hours long. Dam go pick up a book.

This has nothing to do with being "lazy" or "ungrateful." It's simply a matter of logic fail on the part of the law. Either a person should be entitled to overtime for working more than 40 hours in a row, or they shouldn't. Which days of the week it is should not be a factor.

Let's say that the work week begins on a Saturday, as it does at my job. If you work 8 hours a day Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday in a row, you get overtime. But if you work Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday in a row, you don't, even though it's the same number of days. That's just weird, is all.

Isn't it based on the total number of hours worked in a week, that you get paid overtime of at least time and a half after 40 hours. They may work you every day of the week but only for a few hours...thereby avoiding overtime. I don't know if they can legally force you to work overtime (more than 40 hours in each week, UNLESS you hire on knowing that you will work so many say 12 hour days, for example. Each state must have that in print on their own official state's employment site.

The federal law is overtime for hours worked over 40 in a week. The employer gets to define "week" as long as its a continuous 7 day period and they use the same definition always.

And the west coast loser is wrong. California requires overtime for more than 8 hours in a day. The rest of the country has more sense.

No, actually re-reading it, my post still makes sense saying 40 hours in a row (for the week). So if it's Federal Law, don't we have it here too?

" you should be lucky you have a job, the $$$" People feel like they need to puff out their chest when someone finally speaks up about something. All the people bitching back at this guy know damn well they feel the same inside but they let their false pride stop them from saying it. People deserve to have a life outside of work, you work to live, not live to work. Saying the guy is use to collecting food stamps is a really dumb thing to say. I work 7 days a week all the time and it sucks, instead of bashing the guy i'll say " Hey man I know how you feel, maybe start looking for something else while you stick it out in the meantime." Dipshits indeed.

Here is something new: welcome to life without a higher education and/or training. When you are in the service sector or entry-level blue collar, this is how you are treated. Sometimes, after all of those hours you put in, you still do not get decent benefits. You are right to be concerned about working 9 days consecutively. This is red flag. Can you imagine any company having this level of control over your life when you are probably making nowhere near $35,000 a year? No vacation time. No sick days. No 401k. Begging for bathroom breaks. Fifteen minute lunches. Standing all day. No growth or advancement for years. Then, when the season is slow, they let you go until further notice. It is NOT right for any company to do this, but the only option you have is to grit your teeth and suck it up when you do not take advantage of the opportunities your country offers you. Trust me, there are many people who work less than you do and make quadruple the amount you make in a year working 9 days every two weeks.
Advice: Go back school. Get trained to do something if you are not interested in getting a four year degree. If you like blue collar work, get licensed in your state to do a trade. It may cost you time, money and effort, but in the end it is worthwhile because you will have more control over your life.

what is overtime? I was salary, worked 70 - 98 hours a week, on call 24x7, with 2 weeks off each year during which I had to be on constant Phone availability and answer all relevant Email daily.. And I was Very happy doing it because the first 30 years it was worse.

All you guys are jerks. They never said they couldn't it wouldn't do it. They just asked if it was legal. Damn. And you don't know how many hours this person is working a day.
