I have been stopped and treated nicely by the c.p.d. Their lower level officers are mostly good guys that work hard and do a good job. Its the higher ups over there that are a bunch of dead weight that need take some no dose and go to the house. Some of those deadbeats dont even wear a gun. How u gonna enforce the law without a gun??? They need some new blood leadership that isnt controlled by a handful of rich crooks!
Absolutely! You hit the nail right on the head!
The problems & the bad attitudes at the CPD have always come from the TOP DOWN! Especially since good ol boy Bob Terry was made chief.A lot of the new guys haven't been ruined by the brass. Yet...

Are we talking about the same Cookeville police that were recently in the news for killing someone's dog and later for planting drugs on an innocent black man last summer?

While visiting my relatives, your town seem to be a nice little clean and drug-free town, your post seems to be otherwise, I just don't understand?

the drug "plant" wasnt a plant. That dude has a record of dealing drugs and the officer was later found innocent and the drug dealer pleaded guilty. & there r no "drug-free" towns. and the so-called top level leaders n the city r pathetic and should b throw out on their asses.

After reading your post it sounds like you haven't cracked open a paper or tuned into channel 4 news in a while publicenemy. Maybe it takes 6 months for the TV signal to hit your rooftop antenna once it has been transmitted from Nashville.

How the hell did you know I still only have a rooftop antenae? I also have a good memory about stories of innocent black people being framed and people having their dog shot at a traffic stop for no reason. Open your eyes!!!

I believe you when you say some innocent people (of all skin colors, not just black) get framed but that's not the case with this story. The man we are discussing admitted he lied about the dope plant.

So who was really being framed? If you need help with the answer I'll provide you with a hint: It was the Police officer who was doing his job to protect the community from the actions of this drug dealer.

This town is far from being drug free. I thought this was a safe town to live in when I moved here a few years ago but now I read almost daily in the news paper about home invasions, thefts, graffiti, etc. These people aren't stealing to buy food. They are stealing, robbing, and harassing, in order to support their drug habits. I worry all the time now about some thug coming in my home. This town doesn't feel safe anymore. For everyone one who is caught and goes to jail two more take their place.

I have weapons in my home. I am all for gun ownership. It still hate the thought of some crack head coming in my home. There are those in the community who are defensless. There was a young woman raped last week by a pyscho who crawled down from her attic and raped her. Too bad she didn't have a gun to blow his nuts off. Who would have ever expected something like that to happen to them?

Can someone answer why an entire police department and officers can be cleared by the TBI and the dirt-bag admit it was his on several occasions that stupid people can still say that a police officer planted drugs?

For your information Carlos Ferrell is not and innocent BLACK MAN as you claim and is very far from it. Furthermore I think Chris Melton and the Cookeville Police Department need to sue the ass off Carlos Ferrell, his low life attorney and all news media that ran them down.

In the future if your going to cast stones make sure they are liable and truthful and don't always believe the news because they tell you what you want to hear.

I don't necessarily have an issue with the Cookeville PD. I have many friends on the force, but in TN as a whole I do notice a lot of racial profiling. My dad was down from out of state driving a Lincoln Continental with tinted windows. It is just the way he bought it when it was new. He set the cruise control to 65 on his way to Nashville and was pulled over. Before even rolling the window down the cop shouted let me see your hands. The officer opened the door to see an older white male with his bible sitting in his lap and apologized and said he only pulled him over because it appeared he hadn't used a directional to change lanes. The officer apologized again and sent him on his way telling him to enjoy his visit here. That is a crock because it was deemed that is not a legitimate reason to pull someone over due to failure to use their directional. This is TN, no one ever uses turn signals lol. It bugs me.... who cares what someone drives or what color people's skin is. We are all the same in God's eyes.

Check out the video of cookeville police planting drugs on a suspect. It happens around the three minute mark.

Does anyone remember Cookeville police shooting that family's dog in 2003? Or the police officer that shot the other cop in the neck a a police party around the same time? Cookeville police are an embarrassment and I am glad I no longer live there.

I love the one about the cop shooting the other cop at the party!! Funny how it only takes a couple bad ones to make them all look like chumps. I like the female domestic dispute officer getting arrested for domestic violence. She told her husband she was the law before putting the smack down on him!

A "terry stop" is a search for weapons or contraband on a suspects outer clothing. A "patdown" or "frisk" if you will. It says nothing about searching vehicles. That's what were discussing: searching of vehicles. Before you make smart ass comments maybe you need to check the law a little better or at least know what were discussing.

don't get me wrong, I've never had a problem with the CPD. But in my opinion the bad choices of a few reflect the whole.
