Just for something to discuss , whats your personal opinion? Should children be spanked or what type of discipline do you prefer?

Spanking has worked for hundreds of years and will continue to work in my household...my kids will mind me no matter where we are and if someone doesnt like the fact that I WILL bust my kids ass..then they need to turn their head because my kids WILL NOT disrespect me!! Dont get me wrong now there is a huge difference between busting a kids ass and beating your kids...

When your in a store and you see a child between ages 3 to 13 and they are yelling at their parent because they didnt get their way whats the first thing that comes to mind? If your answer is its the parents fault then what would you want them to do about it? Time out,Restrictions, smack across the face or for them to warm their but up with a few well place swats.Spanking works some times it keeps them from growing up and becoming inmates in the local jail.

Spanking doesn't work for all kids, some grounding works, or taking a special toy, or sent to bed. I have 4 kids, with 2 of them, i could spank and spank them, and it dont phase them a bit

You can't even smack your child on the mouth anymore. Someone was in the newspaper a while back for "child abuse." Their daughter reported them after they smacked her smart mouth. And people wonder why kids today act like little monsters.

14 and 16 is a little old for ass whoopings but if my son or daughter talked like half the brats I see in public, you better believe they'd get a hand across the mouth. Fortunately for me, I nipped that behavior in the bud a loooooong time ago when a spanking or three and 30 minutes in the corner was sufficient.

I tell my kids something once and if they don't listen the first time they get spanked. No counting to three. No yelling. Just simple rules with clearly defined consequences. I'm am sick and tired of people letting their kids be disruptive in public and equally tired of having to listen to them constantly yelling at their kids. If you don't believe in busting their ass, at least take them home. Your parenting style is not an excuse to let your children ruin other people's times.

I reserve spankings for young college girls who need a strong hand across their firm bottoms.

yes i do believe in spanking a child NOT ABUSING there is a fine line. My children know I will not tolerate not listening, disrespect, or having to be told twice. Granted I have an 11yr and a 15 yr old so sometimes one swat doesnt work I have to take privileges away also. Like others have said before all in the age on how they will listen when given a punishment when they have done things wrong. My 15yr old is pretty much at the age were I have to take things away but he knows i mean business. I grew up in an abusive house and I swore I would do things differently with my kids on teaching them rules and respect. I did that and I dont have disrespect from either. Im glad to because my husband is an OTR driver and I would have hell on wheels if i hadnt done things the way i did with their daddy being gone for work. But like someone else said to alot of these kids get away with to much because they have changed the laws on how you can discipline your children. I think then maybe the people who make these laws should take the kids in who are disrespectful and dont listen into their house and see what some parents go thru not being able to spank their children because of laws they have put into place

To hit your child is to teach them that the way to deal with things is to use violence.
The best way I've ever seen in being with kids is a book called "Between Parent and Child".This is like magic.Who really feels good after smacking their child.
Most of the time it's more about the parents loss of control.
If spanking worked would you after smacking your kid for running to close to the busy highway then just leave that child alone by that highway?NO.Then you do'nt realy believe that do you?

To put your child in the corner is to teach them that the way to deal with things is to use social isolation. The best way I've ever seen in being with kids is a book called "Parenting for Pussies".This is like magic.Who really feels good after putting their child in time out.

That is a grammatical TRAIN WRECK. What do you know about parenting? You don't even know how to use the English language.

Children don't need a friend; they make plenty of those at school. They need a parent. Do you know what happens to kids who are over-coddled? They turn into adults who are incapable of fending for themselves. They can't handle criticism and can't deal with the real world that exists outside of the cocoon that you raised them in. Most of these "holistic" parents who denounce spanking are often the ones constantly yelling at their children which is, to me, far more traumatizing than a quick, swift butt busting. Or even worse, their kids grow up thinking that punishment doesn't exist and become completely deranged and unruly once they realize that the repercussions for their actions are minimal at best. I had worked in the juvenile justice system in Florida for 15 years and the facts are inarguable. An overwhelming majority of the pre-teens and teens who were in the system had little in the way of any real punishment at home. Are there cases in which spanking is not appropriate? Absolutely. Many children with Autism and other conditions can not handle that sort of treatment.

Adults know how to deal with issues in an adult manor. You can't sit a five year old down and have a 30 minute discussion about how your financial situation prevents you from purchasing the Jeep Power Wheels that they've decided to throw a fit about in the middle of the store.
