Does anyone else find it strange that the only person that wasn't ousted in the November election is the same one who was in the polling places illegally? And does anyone find it strange that the voting machines that were tampered with were from Monterey where she is from?
U need to Know

What I think is even stranger is that lots of people who went to vote were turned away told to come back because the machines were NOT working and all Steidl can do is blame others for stepping across a line. The red tape may have been gone but the locks were still there. Instead of us blaming others we need to replace the WHOLE election crew
just wondering

I know they also get state contracts and put workers on scale jobs but they don't pay their workers state scale and they get by with it when all the other contractors pay scale pay.The Burks have never paid the state scale. You see their workers out around Tn Tech working ask them if they have ever recieved scale pay.

Yeah, that’s all interesting to me too. When you pick up the papers to run for public office, you are notified in great detail about what is legal and what is not. Besides informing candidates about filing deadlines, financial disclosure rules, etc., they also give them information about what campaign workers and candidates are allowed to do or not do around the polling places. And the rules are POSTED, for crap's sake. We have a lawmaker saying she didn't know the law. Bull.

It seems incredible to me that a woman who has been elected/re-elected three times before this year can claim she “didn’t know” that she was supposed to stay out of polling sites. I don’t buy that for one minute.

It is disturbing that poll workers in Monterey would be “intimidated” by Ms. Burks prancing around the site. What the crap? They don’t work for her. Why would they be intimidated in the slightest? But it is even more disturbing that one of her daughter’s employees from the Executive’s office would be breaking seals on voting machines. That piece of work should be arrested and imprisoned. I view that the same as cutting the seal off an electric meter. Once the seal is gone, who knows what sort of shenanigans could go on?

It’s time outside agencies do a detailed investigation of all of this. And it needs to be people who are not beholden to the little click leaders in our local government. That includes the local TBI agents. There have been some instances of them being “called off” investigations because they were getting too close to certain people.

The FBI would do a good professional job. They couldn’t care crap about who-knows-whom in this little Peyton Place.

I also find it strange that in today's paper she stated that she didn't know she wasn't allowed at the polls unless she herself was there to vote.
BULL CRAP. The whole entire civilized world knows that anyone running in elections can't be there. And, for her to "intimidate" the poll workers from Monterey??? For her to state that she didn't know she was breaking this law, is nothing but hog wash.

Mr Steakley aka stange happenings pay for your teeth at Dr. Johns office, pay off your bankrupcy, that you lied about which is on file in Atlanta, and maybe you sould have been a Tennessee resident for the required amount of time before running for State Senate. And how about that deal you made with Randy York in Cumberland County. You need to get a clue. Yea she crossed the line but not 183 votes. If she was going to tamper with machines it would have been in Cumberland Couty. I think you Mr Steakley had someone cut the seals because you knew she would win Monterey. You would love to have that thrown out. Mr. Steakly you know about fraud the guilty dog barks. FYI Debbie hires the election workers do you think for one second she would be in bed with Charlotte Burks Ha Ha Ha.

So you think Gary Steakley has someone working for him in the County Executive's office, which Ms. Burks's daughter runs? That sounds a bit far-fetched.

But more importantly -- pray tell us about the deal with Randy York. That sounds intriguing.

Thanks in advance.

If they cheat employees out of wages why wouldn't they cheat at the polls?

Don't be bringing that ole horse in here - it's already been beat to death! At my voting precinct (HYder-Burks) BOTH parties had campaigners within 100 feet of the entrance.

No, but I should have. I was ticked off that I had to "avoid" them so to speak. I had already decided on my votes and I was thinking how sad and stupid it was that they might actually influence someone's vote by being there, as I believe one should already have that figured out before they get to the polls and if they don't or aren't sure then they should not be voting. And, altough it was both parties, that really makes no difference in that I should have reported it. It really is a voters' duty.. I really think it goes on at other places as well and no one says anything...but you know what? Next time I will. Besides being as annoying as hell, it is wrong.

Not from me, not this time, but I will report it in the future if I see it again. If, however, they had been inside I don't feel I would have hesitated to report.

I have worked elections for several years and ever since we've used this type machine the red tab breaks when you close the lid if its not laying just right. There has been several every year and also was this year, and I called the election commission and they told me it happens regular and not worry about it. Also the machine mechanic said it was a common problem. The poll workers don't have a clue about the tags and why they are there and thats the reason we run the zero tapes at beginning and tally tapes at end and its sour grapes to even hint this was tampering or cheating by a candidate or election officials.

Southern Democrats might as well be Republicans, come on you people. In any case, isn't the election commission headed by a Republican? Wasn't there some controversy when the last head (a Democrat) was removed since the commission is pretty much a non-partisan entity?
