Good Pet Shops in Cookeville?

My family and I recently moved to the Cookeville area and were in need of some information. When we moved here we brought my daughter Olive's aquarium with us.She has four Black Skirt tetras, three Sunset cichlids and about six or seven Neon tetras.Last week we purchased a Ursus maritimus from an individual. He told us that this species does better and are less stressed in groups of three or four and that we should try and find some more to go along with the one we got from him. What we were wondering is this. Are there any good and reputable pet shops in the Cookeville area that anyone would suggest or would we need to go out of town? Now that we are citizens of Cookeville,we would like to do business locally.Any input would be greatly appreciated.Thank you.Sincerely,Ollie Vansvuet.

Exotic Tropicals. The owners actually know about animals, and they hire people who are knowledgeable . Petco is ok if you know what you want and need food etc, but if you have questions and need real advice, go to Exotic Tropicals.

I would like to give you my deepest heartfelt thanks for your responses. You see, this is why my family and I love it here so much in Cookeville. All of the intelegent, warm hearted and friendly people.I have checked with both Petco and Exotic Tropicals and they do not carry this particular species.I am totally against buying off of the internet, although I would not be against dealing with a private breeder,if there is one in this area.I have been told that if you buy from a private dealer that their stock is healthier and less stressed due to the fact that they have not been around a bunch of people gawking at them all day long.I don't know if this is true or not.Any advice or information would be greatly appreciated.Thank you again.Sincerely,Ollie Vansvuet.

Ms.mom,I would like to humbly thank you for the information. This again is why we love this community so very much. All of the giving, astute and intellectual people here.Might I say this with the greatest sincerity. We are proud to be a part of the Cookeville community!I took your advice and called Mike, but he said he did not have that species either and was not familiar with it.He was very friendly and told me he would do some research and call me back.Once again,Ms. mom,I am very greatful for your concern and input.Thank you.Sicerely,Ollie Vansvuet.

The people at Exotic Tropicals are rude. I went there looking for a 10 gallon tank to use as a sump tank and asked the guy and he apparently assumed I was planning on keeping something live in it (not that it would have been any of his business if I was) because he put his face in his hands, leaned back and with a sigh said "Why do people buy those????" I left immediately.

You too? I don't appreciate them inserting their opinions where they aren't needed or wanted either. Anybody who sells animals that are presumably coming from the pocket pet equivalent of puppy mills isn't allowed to lecture me on what I feed my dogs who are already eating some of the best food out there anyways.

Please! Please!Mr.Somebody and Ms.linda, lets not make this thread negative.I'm not about that. It's like my Grandmother Ollietta,God rest here soul, always said."If you do not have something nice to say about someone,do not say anything at all".All I was trying to do was to inquire where I may find some Ursus maritimus for my daughter's aquarium.Thats all.You may have had a bad experience at this place, but hey, think about it.Maybe the person you talked to was just having a bad day.We all have those don't we?And Ms.linda, maybe, just maybe, the person you talked to wasn't lecturing you but just giving an opinion from personal experience.Let's just all try and get along.Be positive and positive thing will happen to you!Sincerely,Ollie Vansvuet.

Just because not everyone knows that is a POLAR BEAR, doesn't make people stupid. People are trying to be kind to you. Grow up.

Ms.Momwithsense, let me ask you a question. How does not knowing what a polar bear is make a person stupid? It sounds to me that you are the one that is insinuating that people are stupid. They are not!And Ms Momwithsense,in my opinion you are being rude. That is not the way I was raised.Like my Grandfather on my mothers side,Ollie Oxenfree, for which I am named after, may he rest in peace, always said,"you can catch more flies with honey than you can with vinegar".This means please don't be rude. And yes people are being kind. This is the reason my family and I are proud to be Cookevillians. All the kind and helpful people. As far as you wanting me to grow,I am forty five years old.I am six feet tall(at least that is what it says on my drivers license)and I doubt that I will be getting any taller. They say the older one gets, the smaller in stature they become.Thank you though for that kind thought.Ms.Momwithsense,always remember the fly and honey thing. You will be happier in life.My Grandfather was a wise man.Sincerely,Ollie Vansvuet.

Oh, Ollie! Poor misguided, Ollie. I never did care for honey. Especially cheap, fake honey you find spread around everywhere. I care only for the good stuff you find from the beekeepers. Vinegar, on the other hand, does the job no matter how cheap it is. It has hundreds of uses...especially cleaning. Good ole vinegar will clean up nastiness anytime.
