The woman's eyes were filled with tears as she stood at the customer servce desk at the Algood Walmart on Saturday.

She was begging the store managers and anyone who would listen, please remove the display of ASSAULT WEAPONS in the sporting goods department. She had brought one to the service desk so there would be no question as to what she was referring to.

She tried to explain,(when no explanation should have been necessary), that it is so inappropriate to have those on display at this sad time, when so any chldren have been taken from us with such weapons.

I don't know if the manager removed the display after she left, but the expression he wore on his face when she had turned to leave, told me the ASSAULT RIFLES would remain where they were.

People turned to watch, and strained to hear, but I wonder if any of them ever had to take a stand. I wonder if anybody else really cares what Walmart sells. I wonder if any of them will remember that tearful woman, as she stood alone that day.
Thanks

They should not be on display.
But until the people of America realize that assault rifles have no place in the hands of average joes, we will continue to see them.

Why anyone, would need an assault rifle is beyond my understanding. Could it be "greed" by the gun makers and ammo makers? Yes, I think it is your right to have a gun for your protection, not an assault rifle or any of those other automatic weapons that can blow a building away. If you own a gun, then you should accept the responsibility of keeping it in your possession, or keep it away from mentally unstable people.

I suspect a large percentage of people that buy an assault rifle is the fire power it has.Television and video games portray them as.....well you know what I mean. For those of us that know a shotgun loaded with shot that won't penetrate walls where you family sleeps is the very best home protection you can have. We really do need the people that buy assault weapons but we need them in war. Grow a set and join your favorite military group...you know the ones you are portraying in Call of Duty.

All of the people killed in that school were shot with two hand guns not an assault rifle.

No its an assault rifle and if some on here would just get off topics for a few minutes they would see that it was used as the primary weapon to fire 100's of rounds..he had alot of fully loaded 30 round magazines...

Yes, and nuts like this guy is why I deserve to own an assault rifle. Never be outguned by criminals. Do you thing drug dealers will give theres up? Just watch the bank robbery in L.A. a few years ago. Do you think the LA police liked being out gunned? They made adjustments after that and now have fully autos in there cars

It is our constitutional right to have firearms. It is number 2 on the list, freedom of speech is number one.

The murderer at that school acquired the weapons illegally; HE STOLE THEM.

He was not only a murderer but a thief as well. The Bushmaster did not kill those children, The person which pulled the trigger killed them.

Are we looking to ban motor vehicles too? They kill many each year and can be used as a weapon.

OK I'll stop letting the mentally ill borrow my assault rifle if you will educate yourself about assault rifles and legal gun owners. but I refuse to get rid of my automatic building blower upper.

If you feel the need to own an assault rifle I guess that is your right, guess you own can as many as you want. I just don't feel the need for all that power, I rather die myself then think that because, I had weapons of mass destruction that some mentally challenged person, stole from me and used it to destroy another human being, especially young innocent children. You know there is way to many assault weapons floating around, that young people, thiefs, robbers, murderers and mentally challenged people can get their hands on.

Yes that is my right, and it's you're right to not own a gun if you choose not to. It's my personal opinion that every household of sane law abiding citizens should have at least one gun, and every child at some point should be taught some form of gun safety class. If you disagree then that's ok, I wont try to force what I believe on you. I would rather die myself also than to think that i was in a public place and a mentally challenged person started shooting innocent people, and I was not armed and ready to defend myself and the innocent. As for an "assault rifle", I would rather have one in my home and never need it than to not have one and need it. I own several handguns and have a department issued "assault rifle" but do not have any weapons of mass destruction. Does Wal Mart sell those as well? I guess they do because when I was a kid a man named Jim Jones killed 918 people with cool aid. Deranged people who want to kill people will find a way to do it.

Do you think if any of those school officials had a gun they could have defended themselves or saved anyones life? I don't think they had chance of surviving. The murderer went well prepared, maby if he only had a small hand gun someone could have stopped him. The killer went with enough ammo to kill anyone in his path. Thats why I don't think the average person needs that much protection. How many rounds of ammo does your "assualt rifle" have?

Ok first of all letís agree all of our hearts go out to the families of the victims. As for the woman at Algood walmart I pity her for making a fool of herself. New gun laws? So you are saying you band assault weapons and limit how much a gun can hold it will fix problem? Right now in most cities you can get a fully auto AK with 5 clips and a crate of ammo for about $250. Now how will these laws stop that? No law is going to stop illegal guns period. As far as how many a gun can care letís ask this? If you have to defend your home, family, or your own life against an illegal AK would u rather have 6 shots or 100? People have a right to defend what is theirs and their life how they see fit. The person that said a shotgun is better for home defense because it wonít penetrate walls has never really shot a shotgun. People blame the movies and video games for kids doing things. Thatís per bs. It is the parents fault get off you a$$ and show them good from bad, bust their butt when they do wrong. It worked for a long time before all the softies started whining. Here is a good ideal if you own guns place them in a safe or gun cabinet and use gun locks on everyone of them unless itís the one for home protection, then you can use one of the newer small safes that use fingerprints or codes for easy access. Teach your kids about gun safety if you own a gun or not. Teach them that movies and video games are not real. Make them have a certain amount of time they can play or watch then get them doing other things outside. Now about the guy being mentally ill, the question is did he have insurance? I am not a big fan of Obama but he is the first one in history trying to make sure everyone has healthcare. I do not agree with a lot of the Obamacare but the foundation of what he is trying to do is good. The problem is the insurance companies, hospitals, and doctors. Letís reform them and get it down to where it is affordable. Maybe that would have helped catch him in time to stop this. So stop going after legal gun owners and figure out a way to get the illegal ones. Makes common sense...

Big deal. In 1984, you could buy semi-automatic versions of AK-47's from Rose's Department Store for $50 apiece (they had a sale.) Sporting goods moved faster then, and were cheaper, but.... what're you gonna do?
