I see a lot of people on here complaining about walmart for all kind of reasons. well i am a working joe, that works at walmart. So here is my two cents. What a lot of people dont know on any given day you have about ten different bosses at walmart telling you ten different things to do, and you are expected to do about ten hours worth of work in a seven hour day. Now i know this is not unusual for any place you work, but the difference is at walmart is you are suppose to always have a smile on your face. Even to those people that come in with that giant chip on there shoulder or the ones that think you should thank them for just walking in the door. So when you actually get a nice person.....which averages about every fourth person maybe on a good day. It is pretty hard to be nice when you had to deal with the jerk right in front of them. hell if you dont like shopping there or have a problem with the store go some where else, i guarantee you we will not complain about it.

First of all, I am a manager at a retail store here. You think you have all kinds of work to do? Take a management position and that will change your perspective a bit. Wal-Mart is terrible where customer service is concerned. At my store, if people were treated like Wal-Mart employees treat people we would all be fired. The way I see it, I plaster a smile on my face on the most stressful worst days, and I expect the same when I walk into any other store. Do you think that you are on vacation when you go to work? You are there to serve people, hence "customer service." The only reason you have a job is because of customers. If you dont like it, go get yourself another job!! If not, quit whining and do your job. Geeze.

I'm sorry that you are treated horribly by customers, I can see that - I used to work in retail for many years. However, on the flip side, why should I - a customer who hasn't done anything wrong - be made to feel bad by a rude cashier because some other person treated them badly? I understand, I really do, you are not a robot that can just pretend these horrible customers don't get to you. But see it from the decent customer's side, too.

I have to agree with all three of these.

To 'someone'- I've been there. I use to work in mens'/boys' wear 6 yrs ago during the christmas season. Got fired because of a similar issue with management. I had Jon Payne telling me to do one thing, Tim telling me another, Kim (dept mgr) informing me of another full night's worth of work, and Brad breathing down my neck because the damn Mens' Underwear wall wasn't to his liking. All while I was by myself on Wed, Thurs, Fri, and Sat nights 2-11. Need I remind again, during the Christmas holiday. I feel your pain.

To 'GetEducated'(thanks for taking my name...)- I've been in management for the past 4 years until just this past week at a very busy retail spot. I know the crap that goes on behind the scenes in mgt. To top it off, I had to be a cashier as well as manage. It can be extremely exhausting. BUT, I agree, deal with it. I would get cussed out by a customer, laugh it off, and be 'happy person :)' to the next person in line. It happens.

To 'well'- I feel the same way when I go anywhere. I expect to be treated the same way as I treated my customers. I also try to take the understanding that some people have bad days and others can't handle certain customers. Not everyone is made that same and that some people need a job just to get by.(Just did 6 years of retail through college.) BUT, if they applied for the job and went through the training, they should know what they're getting into and to expect it. Customers should be treated with respect whether they were nice or not.

Respect is mutual. If somebody treats me well, I treat them well. If they act like an ass then they get treated like an ass. "Customer 1st" is a flawed philosophy which is part of the reason that a large portion of the general public thinks they're entitled to having their ass kissed. A manager's foremost responsibility should be to ensure a pleasant shopping experience. Brown nosing a needlessly belligerent customers and allowing them to cause a scene and possibly direct attention from other customers who actually know how to act in public is a great way of creating habitually rude, crass customers who think that they can come into your place of business and treat everybody (associates AND customers) like shit.

It's called customer service. It should be job one at any retail estalishment. Ask your boss, he'll tell you the same.

well, everyone works at walmart and that's why it's so hard to complain about it. small businesses are much more corrupted here which makes me question peoples criticism of walmart but someone has to keep them, schools, the hospital and law enforcement in check, for sure.

Totally agree with you! Many stores have created shoppers from hell by brown nosing arrogance and rudeness. It really doesn't do any good for business and in fact I avoid stores where most customers are misbehaved. I just don't want to deal with it.

Hopefully the boss treats them with respect. Sure makes it easier to give good customer service if you aren't getting beat up by your boss.

You should thank them just for walking in the door, fool. No customers = no job. If you don't like the working conditions, do something about it beside treating the customers like crap.

I'd prefer make the store conform to my wishes instead of allowing it to offend.

Honestly i'd say if Walmart fires about two more clerks, a cleaning lady and of course every manager in the building, restocks itself with new people, capable of interfacing with the public, they'll do fine.

I too work in customer service and know what hell it can be!!! People in this town are so damn codependent. They don't just want you to tell them where the bathroom is locoated. They want you to go with them, undo their clothes, wipe them, reasseble their garments and flush the commode. I am serious. People here act like they can't find anything. You also have to understand that we all have our own problems such as health issues regarding both ourselves and loved ones. We really don't need someone who can't hear the answer asking us to describe in detail every electronic gadget in the universe!!! Also, we can't just quit our jobs and get new ones. Jobs are hard to come by. Sometimes you have to keep what you got even if you hate it.

HAAA good one! I used to work for a Walmart in Florida years ago and you actually have to keep an eye on those "Cholo Mexicans" who come in with a lot of kids because we had a situation one night when I was working when a Mexican woman came in late night with her 5 kids, Now you would think nothing by it of course since she was shopping....well come to find out she had her 5 kids going around and STEALING things while she was food shopping. She went to leave and security apprehended her,Police and Child Services were called immediately she was arrested and the kids were put into foster care. Cant trust anyone nowadays LMAO
