I have no problem with ones choice of religion or significant relationship with certain symbols within their practices (as I have mine), I absolutely have a problem of the use of one. And that is the cross that you can see for miles on I-40 going through Cookeville, TN. Although there is one thing that the cross there shows me is the power of money.

What if somebody put a fairly large Buddha statue somewhere in the square in Cookeville? Everybody would in a way be forced to see it weather they like it or not. Really doesn't seem to fair to me.

And back to the money thing. The River is the church that funded the building of the cross. This is just one church pulling money enough to buy a giant cross and whatever else. The problem I have with that is that money like that could go towards something that would make a difference in the world, like helping sick and dying children. And that is a little scary to me.

So agree with you PoBoy. In a time when we have enemies around the world attacking our very way of life, some ignorant person thinks having a cross on a hillsde is a problem. Celebrate the fact that you live in a country where people are free to declare their religion. If Buddhists buy the land and erect a statue--guess what, they have the right to do that. I do not appreciate that there are huge mosques across the country, but we have soldiers fighting to be sure they continue to have the freedom to build them. Freedom does not mean that only you have rights. I suggest you read the documents prepared by the founding fathers.

I guarantee if a Jewish church tried to put a giant star of David up on the same hill, people would have a fit. So I believe they should either put all the symbols up there or none up there. Guess Christians are the only ones that keep trying to force their religion on everyone else since they are "perfect" and while everyone else will go to hell unless they convert.

I think the Cross is on property owned by a church and paid for by the church. The county or state has nothing to do with it. I for one like seeing it when I travel I-40. If you find the Cross offensive to you, simply do not look at it. You have that right just like the church had the right to build it!

Synagogue.

Simply put: If you cannot argue religion because you're obviously clueless, don't try to argue religion.

Again, it all goes back to what everyone else has said - the church is in its full right to erect the cross on their own land. There are plenty of other churches in the area that have GIANT crosses on their church. Look at the big blue one on Willow - why don't you complain about this too? This is on private property, is gigantic, and it even lights up! Sheesh. Heaven forbid a church have a cross!

Anti-theists will always find something to complain about. And if they had nothing to complain about it, they'd complain about that.

I bet all of you would complain if someone built a giant pentagram or something along that lines on their own land if it was next to the interstate. Churches waste money all the time and then turn around and say they are out and need more. We find stuff to complain about? You do the same. You complain about evolution being taught in school and start that Upward program which is the biggest load of shit ever. No wonder kids are so far behind today, you are teaching them to not be competitive and you are babying them only for them to be smacked in them face by real life when you finally release them

Most of these anti-theists folks aren't happy in life for obvious reasons. They have to have something to complain about. Such bitterness!

Yeah I have to agree with the idiot christians on this one.. This subject has been WORN OUT and they will never understand and you can never convince them anything because they are obviously clueless to believe that dinosaur bones were "planted" here to test our faith in the bible, and anyone who believes that can NOT be reasoned with what so ever.. So give it up already.. This horse has been beaten over and over. Read the forum titled "the biggest eyesore" and "screw the cross".

Also, I dont know if you read this today or not, but I figured this as the place to share it. The pope admitted to overseeing little boys getting raped and admitted it IN THE NEWS and that it has been going on for years and was wrong and there would be "retribution" for his and everyones involved actions. IN THE NEWS LOL You christians are nothing but little boy raping retards.. lol

And again, to my original point this subject is dead and has been beaten to death. Give it a rest even if we all do agree with you, I agree with the crazy boy raping christians that this subject HAS been beaten to death.

The poster above is evidence alone why non-believers are lost in more ways than one! This poster (christian or not being irrelevent) should step away from the fantasy world and into what most folks (christain or not being irrelevent) call reality.

The reason they put the cross up there is to keep dumbasses talking about it. This topic has been discussed many times on this forum and elsewhere and the conversation never changes. "What it the Jews did this or what if the Muslims did that? Well if you don't like it look away. Blah, blah, blah."

Drop it already. This topic is ancient history and serves no purpose anymore.

Apparently you missed my first post which told people who are clueless about Christianity and religion in general to please refrain from looking like morons.

Most Christians in the Cookeville area would be classified as "Evangelical Christians." Evangelical Christians do NOT follow the Pope, nor anything that comes out of the Vatican. In fact, Evangelical Christians would agree that the Roman Catholic church is corrupt.

But hey, you keep on talking crap about Christianity. It really fits you.

#1 - Churches waste money all the time and then turn around and say they are out and need more?

When was the last time you were at a local church budget meeting to discuss how the money was being spent? Did you know that the MAJORITY of churches in America run on very small budgets, and most of the time miss making their yearly budget. Did you know that most pastors in the Cookeville area are probably going to be part-time and have to have a second job in order to support their family?

Come back and talk about church finances after you have done research. Otherwise, I think you fail miserably on this one.

#2 - You complain about evolution being taught in school and start that Upward program which is the biggest load of shit ever.

Maybe it's just a college education that I have, but I fail to connect these two. First, evolution is a worldview. Secondly, Upward is a sports program. Oh wait, now I get it!

Let's also address the issue of Upward: THEY ARE KIDS! Upward is designed to teach them the basic skills needed. It is a beginning training program. It isn't prepping your kids (and judging by this post, I pray to God you've never reproduced) for the NBA! In addition - you don't HAVE to make your kids play in Upward. There are other basketball leagues. A SMALL PERCENTAGE OF STUDENTS ACROSS AMERICA ARE EVEN A PART OF UPWARD! So, it's Upward's fault that "America is behind the rest of the world?"

This entire post by so-called "atheists" in the Upper Cumberland sincerely makes me laugh. I've dealt with atheists for years now, but I'm pretty sure that real atheists would be insulted by the ignorance that many of you emit. So, again, I use the term "anti-theist."

I hope you kids stop rebelling against your parents who happen to attend a local church.

You guys are dumbasses...lol

Do you or do you not believe that dinosaur bones were "planted" here on earth to test your faith in the lords word?

Come on now.. Because you can either admit you believe that crazy nonsense or you will admit that the Earth IS OLDER than the so called bible says it is when god supposedly "made" it showing it wasn't actually made by a fictional character like that such as the abominable snowman, the easter bunny, or god, but instead evolved from a mass of elements over time which is scientific FACT, not crazy fairy tales like YOU idiots believe.

What DO you believe?

Do you believe that god can do ANYTHING (if he wanted)?

I BELIEVE you seem to have no argument against GOD with the exception of the same old dinosaur bones nonsense. Did you have anything else to say, or were you just going to keep bringing that up over and over and over. Wait, you are the same idiot that keeps bringing up something about some kids being raped.....and thats christians fault. Those are you two arguments, we get that, we can read all of your posts which you say basically the same thing in every post. Could you agree to disagree, and quit exposing your ingorance.
