<quoted text> let's compare, Smith Co has 90 players and more than any other team he plays. Has more bro's than any other district team he plays, and way more than Macon or White House. Sparta and Warren Co are two of the worst teams in the state. How does he have minimum tallent compared to who he plays?
You may have something there! Guess I was just going by all the times he beat us when we were much more talented! But--why did the other guys coaching there not win---even Rankin's record was decent at best!

Rankin built Smith Co. They use to be aweful while Gordonsville went to back to back title games in early 80's. About when he started rolling, 88 semi finals, he left and won 3 states at Riverdale. Dyer come in and was about like Cook. A good guy, decent coach and stayed 500 untill Maynord arrived. Maynard never had to build up Smith like Rankin did.

<quoted text>ok so what do you define as a good coach? At jr high ( where most coaches start ) Herron had winning season every year he was head coach. Won the championship once, maybe twice. Took over UHS who had 2 wins in 2 years and those wins were verse Pickett Co. So basically he took over a 0-20 program with 25-28 players. With the hardest schedule in UHS history replacing teams like Pickett Co, Clay Co, and Jackson Co with Meigs Co, Rockwood, and Grundy Co.......all thre perinial playoff teams. He went from basically 0-20 to 9 wins. He has also got more than 70 players out. What more did you expect him in the 20 months he has had the job. Check out Maynards record the first two yearrs he was ever a head coach at Sparta and compare.
You are a liar!!! They do not have championships at the Jr. High level, so therefore Herron did not win two championships. If they had such winning seasons when he was at Cornerstone, then what was his record? I want proof. You running your mouth is not proof. You know your lying because you have to use several user names to make your point. Your a troll.

He was the champion of the league dumbasss. Same league Smoth Co, Dekalb Co, Livingston,Troudale, Gordonsville, Macon, Jackson, Clay, anf York are in. 2 times he won it. Can't dispute those facts. And in the 3 years since he left as head coach....no winning seasons.

<quoted text>When I was in school at UHS football sucked every year. When I graduated Maynord coached at UHS and they were winning. Maynord left and they sucked again and they suck now. This is not the players fault. It is the coaching. We have never had the coaches who know how to bring out the talent ecept for Maynord.CHS is lucky to have him.
what about Dwayne Alexander. In 2001 went 8-4 if I remenber right. Head coach at Cumberland now going to be offensive line coach for Tech. He didn't suck as a coach.

Maynard may be a good coach, but he sucks and big root for getting rid of coach Hughes!!!! And principle ward you should be ashamed of yourself, how do you sleep at night? You are a one man show for picking the head coach all by yourself, without the usual panel that helps! He should have been left at Waterloo when he got lost!

Hughes was a terrible person who treated kids and parents like crap. He only treated "pretty girls" nice in his classroom and if you were a little chubby or not so pretty (as he thought) he rode their butts and literally made fun of them in class. I have a family member who is now an adult but still has an eating disorder from being bullied in high school. He needed to go. He was NOT a good teacher or person.

They needed to clean house with all coaches and start over. Do you know what other coaches. They keep or let go? Ledford, Hennigan, Chambers?

Keep Leford. Great guy and Coach! Players love this guy. Good mentor for these young men. He leads by example.

Hughes was a wolf in sheeps clothing. Explosive temper and very childish. Hughes needs to coach in a capacity where he has NO authority but can learn from someone how to interact with and earn respect from his players. Ledford is top notch on and off the field and deserved to stay. If Maynard has control and wins ballgames then all the credit goes to him and his current staff. If he loses then it is all on him and his staff. Good job Mr. Ward and Mr. Boyd in letting Maynard have the driver's seat!

Coach Hennigan has alot of experience and could really be great teacher of the game but seems distant at times. When I played he seemed to not really be into the pracitces, like his mind was elsewhere. Don't know much about Chambers. Did talk to a friend who plays now and he said rumors were that he wanted to go back to baxter.

I really don't understand this because my nephew played ALOT and is good. One of his best friends is of the mexican persuasion and also was as starter...how can people say that only if you are rich your kid gets to play? I don't get it?? Does anyone really know those kids that started? They were not all rich, I say more likely the other way around......
I agree. Most parents judge how good a Coach is by how much playing time their sons get. They whine and cry if their sons don't get to play instead of helping them get better. Now being a ex-football player myself and enjoy going to local games. I do have to say that cookeville has been under coached the last few years. I see guys missing their blocks, running backs not hitting the holes, recievers jogging their routes. Quarterbacks staring down a covered reciever, not taught to check down. Defensive taking horible angles and tackling high. Also defensive players leave their feet when trying to tackle instead driving through the offensive player. Now I have seen some very good players on the cookeville team over the past few years...Hennigan boys, M. Espinos, S. Bush, A. Carter, Salada, N. White, Griggs, and T. Wolfe
but Cookeville should be producing a greater number of players each and every year. Hopefully you guys will get it with the new coaching staff. Goodluck and best wishes!

Sitting in the stands the last couple of years in the middle of ex-players who are now dads and grandpas of players, they all seem to have the same sentiment. That being much like the previous post that the Cavs have been simply out coached.

Hughes is gone. Rumor has it he went to Principal Ward's office and made a fool of himself after he was told. Threw a huge fit. This won't help him get another job if it's true. Where would you put Hughes anyway? Maynord brought his OC & DC with him from Smith County. That change had to be made.
Ledford has been moved up to varsity to coach the line. Great job for him since he was an all-OVC lineman for Tech.
Chambers is staying at Cookeville, the kids love him. He's gonna coach the receivers & d-backs or something.
Hennigan is staying in some capacity. He's a volunteer coach but obviously knows the game.
Noah Repaskey will be coaching with the varsity.
Bill Harris will still be helping coach in some capacity.
Steve Medlin has been brought back to be the head coach of the 9th grade team.
1 or 2 guys that coached at Prescott have been brought over to be assistants on the 9th grade team.
Right now there about 150 guys going through workouts 9-12 combined.
Coach Maynord is there every day, even with the 9th graders. Will be the best hire CHS has ever made. Can't wait to see what the future holds.

Medlin is back? What a jackass. Plays favorites. As parent of former player, I have NO respect for him but plenty for Joslin and Cook.
