I am glad to announce that I am officially starting my photography business for the every day family in the Cookeville area. Photography has always been a hobby of mine, and after having a son I realized it is rediculously hard and expensive to get quality family photos. I am offering package deals and every day low prices for maternity, engagement, baby, and family photos.

Please, "Like" the new FB profile (Tate Giddens Photography) and let me know what you think, get a free half off coupon, and schedule an appt!

Thank you all for your time :)

Most of your pictures aren't focused properly, have poor color balance, and a lot of issues with contrast. You appear to be using a very poor quality camera...either a point and shoot or a consumer/entry level SLR. Please do not advertise yourself as a photographer when your photos are mediocre at best.
Sorry

I must agree with "just saying".. I looked at your fb page and noticed that you said you do maternity, children, family's, and so on, yet you only have photos of nature posted. And most of the photos were of things I can find in my backyard. Sorry, but I dont think I will be contacting you for any of my photos.

Really? There are TONS of 'photographers' in Cookeville...and a few professionals that do excellent work at an affordable price. I mean, good luck to you, but I looked at your photos as well and they appear very amateur, I mean, black & white nature pics? Really? You'd better hope some of the professional photographers don't show up here, they will rip you a new one for calling yourself a 'photographer'. I don't know....what you are offering as a service with little experience, most people can do themselves. Free is cheapest, ya know.

Amateur photographers are the reason I have left the industry and now only shoot as a hobby. They're able to offer packages at rock bottom prices because it's not their primary means of supporting themselves financially and it really undercuts the professionals who do this sort of thing for a living. I mainly place the blame on the creation of entry level DSLRs like the Nikon D3000. People buy these cheap "professional-looking " cameras with crappy kit lenses and think they're photographers.

Photography is an art form. It requires a lot of skill, talent, and investment. The camera I shoot with cost roughly $4000 and that's not even including my flash bulbs or lenses. But even the greatest cameras available on the market will not be able to capture breathtaking photos if the person behind the lens doesn't know what they're doing.

B/W nature photos are a no-no? Ever hear of ansel adams?

Yes, I've heard of Ansel Adams. He was an artist and an environmentalist which means those weren't just 'nature pictures' that he took, they were works of art made by a passionate professional who was a pioneer in his field after years and years of practice and probably thousands of photos in his body of work. You can hardly compare his photos of the vast Yosemite National Park and those of the western landscapes to the photos we are discussing here. Even if his work is simply inspiration for you, the argument holds no water. Sorry, I am really not trying to be rude but you put yourself out there and asked for feedback in your original post.

LMAO! You're honestly going to compare this person's pictures to the works of Ansel Adams? Ansel was a master of black and white photography and his photos are still considered some of the best even by today's standards. His brilliant use of light and frame enabled him to capture photos that could send chills down your spine. This person's pictures don't even come within light years of matching Ansel's in caliber.

To ansel adams. Some idiot above said it was stupid to do b/w nature photos. I simply brought up adams as an example of b\w nature photos. Learn to read.

Where are the pics of people? I couldn't find them.

@Mstea There are none. No photos at all of people. And yet, the person claims to specialize in "people" photos. I also am a photographer.... in no way shape or form a professional. But I do children's photos, couples, families, AND nature. And yes, some of my nature photos are in black and white, but I would never compare myself to Ansel Adams. lol
And because of people like the main poster... it is unfortunate that they have put out reputable photography businesses here in town... people that have been shooting wonderful photography for many years. And then, unlike the main poster, you have the "photographers" in town that dont even take good photos, but they use so much editing, that their photos are no longer recognizable. It has truly become an industry of "cheap" photos, and who has the better photoshop skills. Very sad.

Most of you don't seem to know how to read. That's your main problem.

We got it, you weren't comparing this person's work to Ansel Adams just stating that he took black and white nature photographs therefore it is not amateur in your eyes to take black and white nature shots. We got it. You weren't comparing the two-we got it.

None of that however, changes the fact that this person's photos are extremely amateur at best.

The original post says "like the facebook page and let me know what you think". SO...we're letting them know what we think. Sorry, but the original poster asked for opinions.

This is a website where people can post anonymously and that makes it a dangerous place to ask for opinions if you don't have the goods to back it up or the ability to take criticism.

Good evening, everyone.
First, I would like to thank everyone who had constructive critism. When I posted to Topix, I knew what I had coming, and I am very glad there are some honest, thoughtful people on here.
Then, I would like to clarify some things that I don't think I made very clear. I am not attacking or do I have a problem with any other professional photographer. I used to model when I was younger, and I know there are many kind, talented photographers in the area. My main problem is with the mass merchants "Portrait Studios." They offer sub-par family and baby photography (nothing on the people who work there, it isn't their faults) for astronomical prices and advertise to low to middle income families. They then try to rip you off at every chance they get. I didn't come here trying to start any fight or any type of "turf war" with a real photographer. I only have respect and I know there is much more I can learn.

Also, I did not know about this Mr. Adams. I will have to Google him.:) I am absolutly sure my work does not compare to his yet. I am only starting and from his fame, I am guessing he is quite the vetran.

Yes, it is true that the pictures on my FB are blurry and lacking the human art form. I am very much aware of this. Anyone who asks to see some of my work, I explain to them: Most of my work, although I am proud of it, is of my family or friends, and I do not believe it is professional to post these pictures. If you provide me with some information to contact you, I do not mind to show you samples of my work.

I also have many shoots lined up in the next few weeks, so there will be examples posted soon! And as far as the "blurry, low quality" of the pictures of FB, I am aware of this too. They have been sized down and edited for the FB page. I have found large pictures to be too time consuming to upload there. FB is not my portfolio, just my way to get in touch with people.

Thank you to everyone who has messaged me, made appointments, and have been supportive. I really appreciate it.:)
