I know several people who have worked here a long time and made good careers out of it. It's very structured, so some may not like it - but usually they're the ones with problems.

You talking about a driving career, a job at the call center, or a professional office job?

Makes a big difference, from what I hear, on quality of the workplace.

I've worked at Averitt for several years in the corporate office and absolutely love the company and my job. If you come in to work on time and do your job, you'll have no problems. My manager is fantastic and is very accommodating with any requests I have. I'll more than likely be leaving soon, but only because of relocation. I'd retire from there if I could stay in Cookeville. I know several people that have been there 20+ years.

What happened with the 16 positions they had for customer service? Did they get any hired?

I believe they hired all of those last week. I think the newest class of trainees starts at the beginning of March.

I had one interview and never heard anything else, that's kind of low down to not hear anything else from them either way.

I have no problems, but imho averitt sucks...you get no sick days if you get sick then you lose work..I was made a lot of false promises to get me to take the job..I was told I would be eligible for a $1 raise after one year..I've been here over 1 year no raise and when I mentioned it, nothing! Because I am a woman I am stuck with no chances of advancement even though I know the job better then my bosses..I was promised 40 hours a week and for over 1 year I was lucky if I received 32 hours while my coworkers (male) received overtime..so no it is NOT a good place to work...unless you like being punished for being sick, not getting decent hours, being lied to about bonuses and raises, and being punished for being female..dishonest from beginning to end!!

They did hire the 16 customer service positions. I was fortunate enough to get hired this time. We start training March 11th.

I worked there over ten years ago in the corporate office. Not sure what's changed, but I loved my job. For two years. Then, they did a management change, and instead of hiring the natural choice, the opted to hire someone outside of the department simply because they had a degree. Then she came in and hired an assistant manager from outside the company when there were several qualified internal candidates. Neither she or the assistant knew how to perform the basics of the job they were managing. Moral went down. Several people walked. I walked after I was called a "b1tch." I was th 7th person to walk, and people left after me. Again, that was over 10 years ago. They are still in business and growing, so it seems that may have been an isolated incident. I hear good things and I still know people that work there and love it. It's not for everyone though.

It's fine if you're in a bind and really need a job but don't stay there. You'll lose money overall. No raises, no structured performance evaluations, no formal coaching and development. They get you in, you do your job, you get your pay. If that's all your looking for then it will be fine for you. They do have a points system though (or at least they did when I worked there) and if people were more than 5 minutes late to work (no matter what the reason) they got a point. Same one point if you missed an entire day of work and after three absences you are required to bring a doctors note even if it's just something simple or for one of you children. People work sick and nearly dead so they aren't fired. It's an environment of fear. 15 points and your gone no argument. If you need a job it's fine. We all do things we're not proud of, if you're looking for a career - keep looking. Just because people have stayed there 20 years doesn't mean they like it. It just means there aren't a lot of other options here.
