COOKEVILLE -- An on-going investigation by the Putnam Sheriff's Department led to two arrests on methamphetamine charges on Friday.
It happened around 4 p.m. in a parking lot on East Spring Street where detectives say they located a vehicle containing items commonly used to manufacture meth.
Jason Allen Hall, 35, of Tom Lafever Road, Silver Point, and Kristina M. Rasor, 21, of South Creek Road, Cookeville, are both charged with promotion of meth manufacture in the case, according to warrants taken by Sheriff's Investigator Tony Branch.
The warrants allege that Hall and Rasor were observed in a vehicle with the meth items "in plain view."
Sheriff's deputies and detectives say they obtained consent to search the vehicle and found in it the following: Ice cold compress (ammonia nitrate), sudafedrin pills, charcoal lighter fluid, lithium batteries, and a "plastic jug and one plastic water bottle containing an unknown liquid."
Hall and Rasor were taken to the Putnam jail, where bond for each was set at $15,000. They have a Dec. 6 court date.
These are the latest two of several recent arrests on meth charges here.
The dangerous synthetic drug is once again becoming a growing problem in this area, law officers say.
Whereas meth "cookers" of a few years ago created the drug in elaborate kitchen "labs" that often emitted strong chemical odors, today's meth makers have learned a new method, commonly called "shake and bake," which requires less space and time, according to the state Meth Task Force.
Other officers involved in the current investigation include Detectives Randy Roland, Shane Higgenbotham, and David Gibbons. Deputy Matt McDaniel also worked the case.
