Definition of homewrecker-noun-informal
one who is blamed for the breakup of a marriage or family:an adulterous partner.Ok so let's look at this and try to clarify.I have only been able to find a true definition of this term in one well known and accepted dictionary,The Oxford University Press.Let's start with the word "blamed".The definition for the word is: Definition of BLAME
1:an expression of disapproval or reproach: censure
2a:a state of being blameworthy:culpability b archaic:fault,sin
3:responsibility for something believed to deserve censure <they must share the blame>".In a recent situation the 3rd definition is needed."Responsibilty for something "BELIEVED" to deserve censure."The word believe means 1.)To have firm faith,2)to accept something as true or real,or 3)to hold an opinion. The situation most recently certainly implies the use of the 3rd.We all know that an opinion is a view, judgement,or belief of an idividual. To place blame an idividual must not only decide who is at fault, but also form an opinion. We all know what "for the breakup of a marriage or family means,so now on to the terms "adulterous partner."Adulterous means related to or characterized by "adultery."Definitio n of ADULTERY:
voluntary sexual intercourse between a married man and someone other than his wife or between a married woman and someone other than her husband.NO WHERE in that definition does it say being friends with or speaking to the opposite sex outside of the marriage.ONLY an act of knowingly having sex with a married person makes you a home-wrecker. Now partner means "a person who takes part in an undertaking with another or others, especially in a business or company with shared risks and profits.either of two people dancing together or playing a game or sport on the same side, either member of a married couple or of an established unmarried couple;a person with whom one has sex;a lover or dialect a form of address by one man to another.I know some of you are probably saying wow this makes no sense so let me reiterate my point.Calling someone a home-wrecker,you are putting the responsibility of a failed relationship on another based on your belief,(sometimes valid sometimes not,for lack of physical evidence)that a married person had sex outside the marriage, with a knowing party. So to be a homewrecker you in fact must commit adultery,my question is how can one be a home-wrecker when no such act has been commited? The term has been misused and taken out of proper context to fit your need to deny the truth of the situation, put off responsibility of the married partners pre-existing problems, and make an excuse for yourself,or someone else,to deny their own blame for the downfall of the relationship. If you think someone is commiting adultery, you should do your research, get hard facts, then the affected party will decide if they wish to continue the relationship.Waiting until a relationship has ended, then deciding to slander someone you know nothing about only makes you look petty and immature. It is time to take responsibility for YOUR actions. In a relationship, there are hard choices and sacrifices, but YOU and only YOU can make up your mind about what you will and will not tolerate.Im sick of seeing"he or she cheated and our failed relationship is ALL their fault."No it's not!You have the option to talk to your partner;find out likes/dislikes as well as problems/solutions to those problems.IF they won't talk WAKEUP-GET OUT,before you get hurt. The term is being thrown around without any regard to its true meaning or validity. If you feel the need to call someone a home-wrecker you should first look into the problem in the relationship, then see if it is true,Meaning find proof the accused married person and the accused home-wrecker are actually commiting adultery. If they are, then you are correctly using the term, and need to consider that not only the other accused individual, but the accused married individual are both "home-wreckers."

I hope he cuts off all contact with you and works things out with his wife. OR you guys get together, get married & he is talking to another chick on the side. Then you won't be so concerned about the formal definition.

actually I am not the one involved, I posted this to just get a general idea of what others think/feel about the subject. My sister in law posted pictures of their Halloween party and a mutual friend was there that he and his wide had split up that. The picture was innocent, it was just a picture of him in a wig. But a few days later she got a message saying she was a home wrecker for having a picture if him. Lol. So she promptly replied staying that he is a friend of her and her husband (my brother) and nothing was meant by the picture.

Your sister should not worry about what others think. Life is short and most people are emotional idiots. As Dr Seuss says, those who mind don't matter and those who matter won't mind.

Reread your original post & this reply does not make sense. It sounds like someone was "talking" to someone else's husband & got called out on it.

I apologize, I didn't realize it might have seemed that way. The wife didn't say anything, it was her friend. But no they weren't talking, she just simply posted his picture with the rest if her Halloween picturea and that resulted in her being called a home wrecker. I assure you if they would have been talking, my brother would have thrown a Bitch fit .

No worries. I may have made an assumption. I hate it when people think that it is okay to involve themself in someone else's relationship. I was gonna jump on the opportunity to put someone in their place lol.

My life is far from pathetic, but thanks so much for showing your lack of intelligence by paying no attention to what was said. "I posted this to just get a general idea of what others think/feel about the subject." And I'm not worried about the drama I simply decided to show how ignorant people are when it comes to the misuse of the english language. This post was only to see how others felt about the truth of the word "home-wrecker" Thank you and Have a great day!!!!
