What does child neglect have to do with food stamp fraud? I do think a lot of people get food stamps that do not need them, and alot of people do not use them to feed their children.

This is typical abuse of a social program that some people need. Obviously, these people don't need it. Maybe they should be made to pay back the past year's worth of benefits.

i feel some sympathy for those folks, they live in areas with virtually no job opportunities, can't afford cars, poorly educated, childcare issues, etc.

the ones that irk me are the hypocrites that drive nice cars, work good jobs and still take advantage of the system.

i've seen real estate agents making a killing, knock up a secretary or waitress and have the state pay for the hospital bills b/c they weren't married and couldn't claim his income.

he will probably vote for McCain too, i couldn't make this up if i tried.

I am so tired of people feeling sorry for these types of people. My husband lost his job over a year ago and has applied over and over for jobs here in MB. He is either over-qualified or under-qulified. I cannot work and actually I have had 3 major surgeries since May 08. On top of that, we have children. We do not get food stamps and I do not get disability because of our bank account. We have saved money over the years. I am also a college grad which the system takes into account. We have been struggling, I mean, really struggling. It is scary. But we have NEVER thought about committing crimes to get money. And if we did get food stamps...we would get FOOD!!! This is disgusting.

To the comment about voting for McCain...I only pray he does. For Obama is pure evil and would support trash like the people in this artcle.

These are mostly very poor people that traded excess food stamps in exchange for gas that they could not afford. Russell helped me out during a rough time a few years ago by selling me 2 barely used "new" tires for $10 a piece & had them put on for free. He helped me save a couple hundred dollars that day & I will forever be grateful to him for that. He does a lot of good for people living in Loris. Maybe focus on the mayor, who would rather spend taxpayers' money on flowers & lamps to "beautify" the downtown, instead of paying the city employees.

I think that was truly kind of him to help you in the time of need. But, for exchanging food stamps for gas is still illegal no matter how you look at it. If he was a true man, he would have helped those people by giving them the gas instead of doing something illegal. If you read my situation above, you will see where I stand right now. I have to go to Charleston for my surgeries and to see a doctor. There are many times that we hardly have the gas to go. We only go places that are necessary. No matter how kind this man is, he still did something illegal. That in turn makes others have to pay higher prices.

Right. The Republican giveaways in the form of billions to African, and Middle Eastern warlords is much more palatable.

How does anyone know that the food stamp cards were used to purchase gas? Maybe they were used to buy some illegal drugs instead!!It's well known about the sale of drugs ,just check his prior record. What I don't understand is how he always gets by with no more than a slap on the wrist. As for him helping people I don't think using money that was made dishonest is good for anyone. If you check the ones he helps are all regular customers of his!If it were anyone else they would be locked up for about 15 years!!

I tried to turn in a woman at a check cashing place for buying EBT cards, lots of them, but no one seemed to care. She's still doing it. And I'll bet it's more than 20 cards.

All I have to say is you could have bought used tires just as easily at Magnolia Tire or Carolina Southern tire for about the same price. I do business with Gary at Magnolia Tire and he will help me any way he can, he even lets me charge car repairs or tires if needed. As for these people being poor , maybe some but I know for a fact that some were not, some got the food stamp cards illegally to start with. They don't turn in their boy friend living with them or the work they do on the side.I've actually seen people come in a retail store (mgr for 25 yrs) and use their children's SSI or Social Security checks (which we cashed) and they bought beer , cigerettes, and also clothes for themselves and the children standing there crying for something that they want and told to SHUT UP!! There is diffently something wrong with our system.People who deserve and need help 9 out of 10 can't get it.Like someone mentioned earlier if you work and try and then something happens you need help you are denied because you don't sit on your butt and collect checks but have worked your entire life.
