I accepted Jesus as my savior just a few years ago. I had been secular most of my life. I didnt have a good perception of organized
Christianity after seeing all the fraud and con games from the televangelists. Now I am in a Baptist church. Reading Baptist websites and somewhere in the Bible it states that my salvation is free. But now our pastor states that to have the "favor" and "blessings" of God (I)(we) need to give, sow. Sounds like the TV preachers. He even made an evaluation about the attributes of an "honest" man. Number 6 attribute was giving "at least" (emphasis) "at least 10 percent to the church. Seems like he wants more. Reading various Christian websites I have observed most state that the"tithe" applied to the Old Testament not the New. And in truth the tithe wasnt necesarily money. So, what is the truth??I would hate end up being like my neighbor who believes in God but doenst attend church cause he says they want you to "buy your way to Heaven". And I believe in God but I will never be some yes, sir
totally complient man to whatever some " seminary" educated man who states his or his alama maters interpretaion of the Bible and the most important thing to man.....salvation.

I'm glad you have accepted Jesus as your savior, that is an awesome thing. I too am a Baptist, missionary Baptist. Don't worry there is a lot of confusion at times as a Christian, especially as a relatively new Christian. The bible teaches that salvation is in fact free. Through Jesus Christ only, because he died for all sins, can we be saved. Tithing can come in many forms, money maybe, or simply giving your time to God. That could be helping out at church getting involved or whatever. Monetary donations are important too, churches have bills, and also should support missions and the community. Not to say there isn't corruption in today's churches, but money is important for a church. Let me be clear, salvation is free. There is nothing that man, an awful undeserving sinner, can do to get to heaven. Salvation is the gift of God alone, a precious gift. My prayer is that no one will have to suffer eternal damnation, because we all deserve it. I pray that the lost will find Jesus and be fruitful for him in their lives. As far as finding the right church, I would recommend prayer for guidance and direction, and studying the bible helps too :) hope this helps.

Sir, your salvation is free. It is a gift from God. We cannot pay for our sins..only Jesus did at the cross. I dont see how some pastor can tell you otherwise unless his motivation is to solicit money at any and by any means necessary. The "honest" man must pay at least 10% to the church is a bunch of crap. Tell him what if an honest man has income only enough for his expenses?? Of course, some preachers will say give off the top and you will get it back, ten fold or whatever but that is a fantasy on your way to bankruptcy court or get evicted or doing without your necessities. Sir, dont listen to the Christian TV and its con and fraud. They will tell you to give your last 100 dollars and you will strike oil or get an inheritance from uncle Dumas in Nigeria but it aint so. One must give what he is comfortable with.. and maybe only time or work if money is not in your comfort zone. Maybe you need another church and pastor. Look into it before the one you have corrupts your mind or makes you cynical. Bless.

ooops we been taught i see, been led i see. to define tithing you may need to go to bible search and type in the word and get a bible def. of the word. you wont find it in the New Testament. and salvation is through Jesus. some say im glad you
got saved. "got saved" well what did i consist of and what now ! is repentance necessary ? is confession necessary (and if you believe you do well yet remember also that satan also believes) the bible says ( although he dont walk in Jesus by faith . you see the word is the power of God unto salvation to all who believe it , and obey it. and even though we fail so bad "JESUS BLOOD CONTINUES TO CLEANS US FROM ALL UNRIGHTEOUSNESS". shall we coninue in sin because of Grace " NO GOD FORBIDS IT
we serve unto life or unto death. And ones name CAN BE taken out of the Book of Life.(whosoever is not found written in the book of life will be cast into the lake of fire with satan and his false prophets. a letter to the church of was said,
some of you christians have defiled your garments of white, those of you who have "must repent' or your names will be taken out of the book of life.
THIS IS RIGHTLY DIVIDING THE WORD. or which should we leave out of our hope for salvation ?

Hey bro I'm glad to hear about your walk with Christ! And salvation is the most important thing, but Christ wants us to be free of all bondage, and completely free, while it sounds like your church may be insinuating just going to heaven.

We are totally freed from the old law, the old covenant that no man but Christ could fulfill. Paul himself called that old law a curse because there was no way a person could pass them as long as we had free will(which God always gives us a choice because that is a part of true love.).

What I'm about to say has two parts, so please read the second part before jumping to conclusions. Judging Christ's character by His words and actions towards sinners and the salvation He offered, we will still go to heaven if we don't tithe, or if we curse, or use bad language, sleep in every Sunday, or anything else that can distract us from God. However, the most fulfilling and hardest to understand part of Christianity is the blessing that pour out from showing love to God.

we do this the same way we show love to our family, we spend money on Him(tithe), spend time with Him(prayer and worship).

As we pour out heart out to God, and let God change us, He will shape our hearts more and more to be like Christ. The more our hearts are like Christ, the more our actions will reflect this.

God said to cheerfully tithe and we will be repaid tenfold(I think that's the number). I think of it like buying a lottery ticket that always wins. But remember, give because you are showing God your love, not because you "have to", because you don't have to

Its always good to hear Jesus as a subject. And it goes like this : I heard the Godspel of Christ , that is about His Birth , Death, burrial and resurrection. And how He reaigns at the right hand of God the Father. And now i believe it !!!! I Truly believe it. Please know this " repentance comes " (repent you therefore and be converted)
a life style of thinking and actions must begin to change to serve the Living God througth this faith you have that Jesus is Lord and Savior !(thats a fact). The bible says we cannot continue in sin and grace will abound " God forbid" the word says.
HOW THEN ? it is through the Word of God which is the power of God to salvation to all who believe in it , and not only believe , YET OBEY IT. the book of James explains it clearly. Also Romans . 6: 1through 6 will say it also. I got saved is a doctrine some baptist teach to say " once saved always saved" and this is false doctrine;
YOU"LL NOTICE: not many baptist believe this lie. Only a few groups of baptist do.
its a dangerous doctrine which lead many to never REPENT and serve God faithful
(have you read the eys of God are over the RIGHTEOUS and His face against them who are not ). PLease read Acts 2: when Peter told them they had killed the Prophets and Crucified the Lord Jesus , they asked Peter : What must we do to be saved ? His answer is : REPENT AND BE BAPTIZED ALL OF YOU ! IN THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST FOR THE REMISSION OF SINS AND RECIEVE THE GIFT OF THE HOLY GHOST . Then we know well that taking the word , and by the spirit we have been given , we become " TRANSFORMED IN OUR HEARTS TO WALK WITH GOD" denying ourselves lust and living to honor our GOd throudh the faith in our King Jesus

One cannot give to God. Only his "representative", the pastor, priest etc. What if one doesnt like
the financial compensation for the pastor?? Still, give??. What if one doesnt like the way the money is spent?? Still give?? From what I have in my limited time as a Christian, is that all "represnetatives" are over paid and I wont support some man who says he is working for God, give me your money. I cannot see
a pastor "working" more than 15 hours per week and wanting full time pay. I am not sacrificing from my hard work to support him. The pastor is not God despite what he may think or what many members fo a congregation mya think. He is a man and the money thing is a con.
