Team sports in all communitys are now starting at a very young age and im glad to see Boonville is starting to figure that out with the skills anf drills for football basketball soccer softball.7 and 8 th graders want to win at a modified level and there are alot of parents that arr starting their kids early to prepare them. You can pretty much tell by 7 th and 8 th grade who is going to stick with that support and succeed. Its very rare that a kid that is not good at all in 7 th and 8 th grade will be amazing on varsity not unless they get extra help on the off season.Just plaging a sport for 2 mths during the season doesnt cut it anymore if you want to win and have your kid play. The problem with some of the Adirondack parents are they get to jealous of each other and think there kid is the best.

I think its absolutely the right age to start making cuts.It should make the parent and kid try harder for the next year.

You play sports to win.If you want to have fun join chorus or a different club.If you want exercise go to the fitness center.Im going to watch the Superbowl and hope they have fun.Im sure either team wants to win.

I think every sport you should be required one year of it .For example one year of modified one year of jv before you can move up to the next level. Its ridiculous to move someone up thats not ready to play at a higher level.

Not all kids can make it to camps and skills and drills with single parent families, also these programs aren't free. Pick all the camp and skill and drill kids and you have some talent . You might have a good quarterback or a pitcher or center or good shooting guard but that means nothing without some strong back up .Say you have some light touch, twig like basketball super shooter , you aren't going to win games just with them ,your going to need some big men down low to rebound and feed the ball . You don't have a growth spurt until 9th grade usually .Some of the kids cut early might be the big men you'll need later on. CHECK OUT THE TEAMS THAT HAVE DONE WELL, you'll probably find a thousand point scorer on the team but that kid had big men down low that paved the way for them .Something else-the big men were probably not that great in 7th and 8th grade , coordination comes later for them .

Actually i am a single parent and i work and my kid still goes to skills camps .If your referring to basketball some of them are free and some are 15.00 at the school. As far as rides thebkids usually carpool or a grandparent or aunt picks them up or some of the coaches offer rides. If my kid really wants to be there and play the game ill do anything i can to help them get there.

6 days of skills and drills or camp aren't going to work a miracle either . Kids need to play on their own throughout the year . I agree that favorites are always picked .

Just something to add that most camps run a few times a year and also check for summer programs.

Why does everyone want to blame the coaches? I was a great athlete back in the 1980's. I was very, very determined to be the best, and frankly would not have done it without my coaches. Granted, times have certainly changed. We did not have cell phones and texting back then. We were very disciplined, hard working to get where we got in sports ( and life). Each and every individual playing a sport played to the best they could be , whether it was a team or individual effort. The best efforts and wins all were attributed to the the individual efforts of each and every athlete under the supervision of the coach, and the positive attitudes of the team mates..... this all adds to success. I do not think it is fair to totally blame the coaches. Team players .... keep your chin up and always have a positive attitude...... You will come shining through. My positive attitude and determination along with my team mates give me the sports award at graduation for outstanding contributations and achievements in sports... What an accomplishment.... I did it, and so can all of you!!

Spoken like a true player that wasn't either good enough or worked hard enough to be either on the team or a starter..Most of these so called favorites are favorites because they are good and work there butts off, they don't complain about practicing every day. They are 1st to practice and last to leave, not the last one straggling in or running out.So my advice if you want to be a "FAVORITE" stop complaining and working alittle harder. Get your note book out and take notes on what these favorites are doing to earn being called a "FAVORITE"

Why are kids so disrespectful to there coaches these days?Ive been to a few games lately and never seen so many kids talk back to there coaches. If i was the parent i would never let my kid get away with that and if were a coach whether that kid is the best player on the team or the worst they would be sitting on the bench until they learn RESPECT!

At a basketball game ,not long ago an adirondack kid was out of control and swearing near the end of the game and was taken out of the game by the ref . The Athletic director was even there keeping score . The kid started the next game like nothing even happened.

Lately ive been around a couple of parents that continue to complain that their kids dont get to play alot compared to the starters.I do feel bad for them but i do know for a factthat their never at any of the basketball skills and drills they never go to basketball camp they hardly play at home.I agree sometimes it does have something to do with who you are butwhen you dont do anything to help make yourself better than its not the coaches fault.

Not really sure it matters what team its just a fact. The kids themselves really arent that athletic and that has alot to do with it as well.
