I have recently recieved an email describing a 23 foot alligator that was toting a full grown deer in it's jaws, underwater as it swam in the west end of Conroe Lake,...any truth here?

For pics and a copy of the email, contact me at jonas.schommer.ctr@navy.mil.

The Florida record gator is 14 feet 5/8 inch. Records for Texas, Louisana and Georgia are of similar but slightly less length. I had a large bull gator hooked on 12 pound test fishing line on Lake Okeechobee. I thought I had hooked into a log on the bottom of the rim canal and then the log started moving. I will never forget the look on the face of the 9 year old boy in the bow of the boat when a very large gator surfaced with his jaws wide open. When he slammed his jaws shut, he cut the line. Obviously, the gator came to the surface willingly since there was no way that test line could bring him to the surface. He obviously came to the surface just to see who had stuck this fishing hook into his jaw.

I have pictures of the 23+ foot long alligator hanging from a front end loader, with a 6'5" man walking by and two trucks in the background. If it's a phony, it's a good one. sandyantares@boston-redsox.net .

the picture obviouly is a fake. notice the shadow cast by the man goes underneath the gator, and the gator doesnt cast a shadow. obvious superimposition.

the photographer would have been standing gator's shadow, thats why you cant cant see it. If you look at the sun position and the other shadows on the gound, you can see the shadow would be out of frame.

Baracuda has it correct. The gator looks bigger than it is due to the perspective. It was a huge gator at over 13 feet long, but it was no 23 feet.

About the alligators shadow, it is not possible to see the gators shadow. As you can see the mans shadow is being cast to southwest it would be impossible to see the shadow from the size and angle of the picture. You might want to really look at the picture before making assumptions. You also might want to check your history about the largest alligator ever recorded in Louisiana, check the following website. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alligator

Just thought you should know the Florida record is 17' 5" not 14' 5". I have seen alligators in Texas larger than 14 feet. I was fortunate enough to be allowed to harvest a gator that was 12 feet. The gator had been attempting knock a woman off of a pier for a snack.

I've seen a near 10 footer and some smaller, but 23 feet? They don't get that big.
Without pics this report is BS.

The picture is obviously a fake. You can tell by looking at the tailgate of the pickup on the left of the gator. Notice how huge it is compared to the size of the man who is supposedly the same distance away.
