Would anyone know of any home remedys, that they would share? Any remedies for any ailment would be interesting, if you have tried them.

Well, I have been thinking about what if the hospital became over run with the flu, and how to care for myself and my family without a doctor. I have bronchitis, that I tried a hot toddy with lemon and honey for this morning. The warmth going down helped for a while, but that effect didn't last.

Any safe ideas for the homecare givers out there?

Cinnamon and Honey

Drug companies won't like this one getting around. Facts on Honey and Cinnamon:~Frisky

It is found that a mix of honey and Cinnamon cures most diseases. Honey is produced in most of the countries of the world. Scientists of today also note honey as very effective medicine for all kinds of diseases. Honey can be used without side effects which is also a plus.

HEART DISEASES: Make a paste of honey and cinnamon powder, put it on toast instead of jelly and jam and eat it regularly for breakfast. It reduces the cholesterol and could potentially save one from heart attack. Also, even if you have already had an attack studies show you could be kept miles away from the next attack. Regular use of cinnamon honey strengthens the heart beat. In America and Canada, various nursing homes have treated patients successfully and have found that as one ages the arteries and veins lose their flexibility and get clogged; honey and cinnamon revitalize the arteries and the veins.

ARTHRITIS: Arthritis patients can benefit by taking one cup of hot water with two tablespoons of honey and one small teaspoon of cinnamon powder. When taken daily even chronic arthritis can be cured. In a recent research conducted at the Copenhagen University, it was found that when the doctors treated their patients with a mixture of one tablespoon Honey and half teaspoon Cinnamon powder before breakfast, they found that within a week (out of the 200 people so treated) practically 73 patients were totally relieved of pain -- and within a month, most all the patients who could not walk or move around because of arthritis now started walking without pain.

BLADDER INFECTIONS: Take two tablespoons of cinnamon powder and one teaspoon of honey in a glass of lukewarm water and drink it. It destroys the germs in the bladder....who knew?

CHOLESTEROL: Two tablespoons of honey and three teaspoons of Cinnamon Powder mixed in 16 ounces of tea water given to a cholesterol patient was found to reduce the level of cholesterol in the blood by 10 percent within two hours. As mentioned for arthritic patients, when taken three times a day, any chronic cholesterolcould be cured. According to information received in the said Journal, pure honey taken with food daily relieves complaints of cholesterol.

COLDS: Those suffering from common or severe colds should take one tablespoon lukewarm honey with 1/4 spoon cinnamon powder daily for three days. This process will cure most chronic cough, cold, and, clear the sinuses, and it's delicious too!

UPSET STOMACH: Honey taken with cinnamon powder cures stomach ache and also is said to clear stomach ulcers from its root.

GAS: According to the studies done in India and Japan, it is revealed that when Honey is taken with cinnamon powder the stomach is relieved of gas.

Thanks Cengra, I will try that cinnamon and honey recipe and keep this in mind.

lemon, I used 20 0z of water with a stick of cinnamon, 3 cloves, and a strip of lemon peal, brought slow to a gentle simmer. Then added it to 20z of (southern comfort) whiskey, 2 tsp of honey and 2 tsp of lemon juice Stired and drank slowly.

I didn't know what kind of whiskey to use. I don't like whiskey, anyway.

But it did help. I am not getting too much worse.:)

I also put my head in a towel tent with boiling water over the sink a couple of times.

It is a good idea to try to take care of yourself, and do what you can. But, 40 people have died in Indiana with this flu. So, watch yourself and your loved ones, and get professional medical attention if needed! Our hospital is not over-loaded at this time.

That being said, I suggest you spit out and not swallow the infection and mucus you cough up. Just seems like common sense swallowing that couldn't be healthy.

Yea!!! I feel better today. Though not 100% yet, I am not as sick as I was yesterday. I am doing all of your suggestions, and they certainly are helping. If I would get worse, or if I wouldn't get better I would try and see a doctor, for sure. But right now as it is, I really am feeling better.

A friend of mine suggest I eat almonds, I started that yesterday also.

Crone Lorna, I remembered last night that my grandma from KY, use to take a tsp of vicks salve and eat it. I couldn't do it then, and I won't do it now, but I find the old ways of healing interesting. But, I did put some vicks in a pot of boiling water, like you suggested. It does seem to help!

I know it's dead cold winter, but I also remembered my grandpa putting chewed tobacco on bee stings and wrapped it up, when I was a kid. Worked great!

I would be interested in hearing more self-healing ways, that you all might share. Being many of us from around here have ancestors or relatives from Kentucky, this really could get interesting and helpful.

Take a potato or an onion freshly sliced and put it on a bee/wasp sting and it will pull out the stinger and venom. I have done this several times - it works!

I had something like that wrong with my knee and eventually had to had to go to a professional surgeon. I tried Epson salt and many different home remedies, and nothing helped. Most anything would trigger it to go out. I suffered with it for many years. It was an old basketball injury, from landing to hard under the goal. There are ailments that definitely need professional care.

For Rickets
Drink a strong tea of Sage, and Sweet Fern, and sleep on a bed made of the same until well, wash often in Saleratus (baking soda) and strong Cider or Vinegar.

Plaster for a Swelling in the Knees
Take some cow dung, and vinegar, mix them together and boil them until some thickness; then apply this plaster on the afflicted part; the swelling will soon disappear, as it has often been experienced.

For Nervous Affections

Take one ounce Lobelia Seed, one ounce Cayenne, one ounce Solomonís Seal, one ounce Blue Violet Roots, one ounce of Spignut, two ounces Yellow Poplar, handful of Beech Drops, the same quantity of Indian Pipe or Fit Root, put the whole in four quarts of Holland Gin, by the fire, lightly corked seven days, then strain and add four pounds of molasses, or Brown Sugar, and pour two quarts of rain water, bottle for use. This is infallible.
