Is anybody else completely astounded that city government can authorize TAXPAYER'S money to hire an attorney to fight for Visteon employee's insurance benefits to be paid? If you didn't work for Visteon and you've ever lost benefits, did the CITY pay for an attorney to fight for YOUR benefits? Urban even is quoted in the paper as saying some of these are "death benefits that have been signed over to funeral homes in the past and are now worthless". Who stands to NOT lose money, then if these death benefits are reinstated? LEONARD URBAN? Hire your own attorney, Lenny--don't spend OUR money "going to bat" for a few who had a big fat union covering their butts for years and years--people lose benefits every single day--You gonna ask council for funds to hire an attorney to fight for those people too? Or just the ones that stand to assign their benefits to your funeral home? I can't believe the blatant disregard for ethics, and maybe even legality?????

I think all of you should be proud of our Mayor for what he is attempting to do! I don't see anyone else other than Ruby Siler and ladies that have gone to bat for Visteon Retirees.(I am sorry I don't know all of your names). In fact, I don't think I have ever heard of a Mayor putting himself on the chopping block like he has for Connersville.
I haven't always agreed what Mayor Urban has done, but I do believe that he is trying to stand up for the people of Connersville. I don't believe that he has a selfish motive in trying to help the Retirees, and he has put forth a lot of effort in Carbon Motors. Our town is slowly dwingling away, piece by piece, business by business. Times are really hard and the whole town is really suffering. I think we as a town should try stickng together and helping each other instead of bashing the Mayor and anyone else.
Let's try to pick up the pieces and move forward. Let's start by praying together and striving to make Connersville a better place to live, if each one of us would pick someone to say a kind word to, offer some help for those in need, there are alot of people that are really hurting in this town. Let's take responsibility for ourselves and let's fight to make this a better community, a better loving community.

You guys are sick, sick people. You need to read the Bible and figure out what is going on in this world and in these times. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that the times are coming to a close. Whether it be 1 year or 10 years or 100 years, the end is coming near!
Give me Jesus or the Devil and I will take Jesus everyday over the Devil. Why do you think our country is in such bad shape, the Devil is trying to corrupt the world and take it over, but the Christians are going to win this battle. I will die for Jesus any day over the Devil! How about you? Who will you die for????

Correct me if I'm wrong please, but don't we (as tax payers) already have a city attorney that our tax dollars pay for? Why not use the city attorney instead of paying for another attorney? Just a thought.

It is a good thought, but our City Attorney has no jurisdiction out of our State? I am not sure????

Yes- its a bunch of crap the taxpayers are paying literally 10,000 dollars just to get in the door out in delaware. WAKE THE HELL UP COUNCIL. I am so pissed off at this. TOTAL waste of money, do you think this bankruptcy ruling hasnt happened all over the country thousands of times? NO WAY will a judge alter rulings on this, it would have legal implications worth billions of dollars if that precedent is set.
LET VISTEON GO !!- They boned us on years of tax breaks, The boned us on a toxic dump, and they boned us by letting us buy this place for carbon motors which is another taxpayer money sink.
Pathetic .
I KNOW ONE THING , I expect that council to go to every court for every company that has went out of business in this town just like they are doing for visteon. OHHHH - wait a minute we only have visteon ex-people on council i forgot

I didn't realize this was a religious debate. If times are coming to a close, and you insist on making this about "religion" I would suggest then you don't need insurance since our time is so near. I honestly don't have any idea how your comments have a thing to do with this at all--other than, apparently Leonard, "Pearlie" and her bouffant hair have some people in this town completely buffaloed. Maybe if you pray hard enough, we won't have to spend 10,000 for an attorney???

This would all be wonderful if everyone who has ever lost insurance benefits had the same advantage as having taxpayer funds to "back them" in a lawsuit. My guess is the people that worked at Visteon don't give a rats behind if somebody ELSE lost benefits--it would be "oh, well, that's the way it goes". In addition, I'd be willing to bet that the majority are against healthcare reform--whining about how not everybody should have equal access to healthcare and health insurance. Well, wake up. You can't have it both ways--why should visteon employees get a big hand up, yes from the GOVERNMENT, and others don't deserve the same consideration? I guess, eagle eye, Christianity only reaches so far as Visteon employees???? You gonna organize a Tea Party protest?

Same problem. The city attorney has no business representing a group of private citizens in an employment lawsuit. The VISTEON employees who perceive they are experiencing harm are the ones who need to do the hiring. It's THEIR lawsuit. I shouldn't have to pay for it. Are they going to pay for mine? If my employer defaults on my benefits, I'll bill the city then for my attorney fees. That seems fair.

Another example of this weekend warrior unprofessional Council. Using taxpayer money and spending it on private lawsuit. I cant wait till the STATE BOARD OF ACCOUNTS gets the next anoymous tip...
The city is not an "interested Party" or benficiary. let the Visteon Union get the attorney, not me.

Baker, the city attorney does not practice bankruptcy law and so they needed to hire an attorney who specializes in that, not to mention one authrorized to practice in that state.

This will not only affect the Visteon workers, but the hospital as well. Consider that several hundred people will be losing their insurance. Also consider that with the loss of pensions, there will be hundreds of thousands of dollars not spent in this community; Restaurants, gas stations, theater, you name it. The city has alot at stake with this. I applaud the members of the city council for recognizing that this is not just about the people who are losing insurance and pensions. This can affect all of us. Listen to what the CEO of the hospital has predicted how this will impact the hospital.
