One thing is for certain, once they pleaded not guilty and demanded a Jury trial you can bet this will take quite a different tone. This little media blitz the accused are by appearing on Goodmorning America , multiple TV newscasts is the kiss of death.
The DNR carries one helluva big stick and you can bet they are soaking this all up as they prepare the case and are probably very motivated at this point to defend thier position.
Public opinion , feelings and petitions will not circumvent the legal obligations of the court should they be found guilty.

The last post are all one in the same. This has got to be the dumbest shit I have ever seen. She is a nurse for gosh sakes on top of it all and him a cop. How dare them for being better than most of you useless humans. How dare them have a heart we should just all conform to the mindset of walk on by let it die. Reminds me of how in the big cities someone can be run down by a car and the next ones just keep on driving over them. Same type here crying for the lynching how dare anyone care.
Yes she is a nurse and he is a cop, that means they should be held to an even higher level of accountability. Being in a such a respected position in the community means you should set a better example for the public and not break the law. It doesn't matter what ethical reasons they may feel they had, it was still against the law. All he had to do was pay the fine and it would've all gone away. Yes this is a minor crime, but it was still something they knew was illegal. I'm happy the deer survived, but that doesn't make them any less guilty.

I don' know the people who took in the deer. Some say he is a crooked police officer and some say he is stand up guy. Doesn't make much difference to the deer. Some say he should follow the law and give the deer up to be killed; some applaud him for taking in the deer. That does make a difference to the deer. Some say he should have given the deer up to DNR; some say he was right to let the deer go. That may make a difference to the deer-for good or for bad. Did any of this make a difference to us? Yea, it may have tugged on our heartstrings. But was this deer a danger to us? I don't think so. This deer was not going to hunt US down-although maybe it might be a danger on the road for cars (I ran into a deer one time at night-it was not pretty-you know what I mean.) And, if this deer poses a danger to us disease-wise-I guess DNR had better dispose of every deer in Indiana. They ALL might be infected. So, no, these people, crooked or not, have my highest esteem for caring for this deer.

You're right, they do carry a big stick. But in the end it will be decided in a court of law. Do you really see anyone on a jury sending this couple to jail. I don't. It's still a total waste of tax payers money that could be better spent.

It's a c misdemeanor people. No one goes to jail on a c misdemeanor. Some of you people on here act like this is some big criminal act. If there found guilty its gonna be a fine. Now I know the local dirtbags will cry a river but its a c misdemeanor it won't be a massive conspiracy.

I see two people standing up for their principles. To me they are strong and are not just followers or SHEEP. That is a good thing. If it takes a trial to prove a point then let it happen. I guess that sometime in your life you have bent a law or two but got away with it. I bet you also stood up for a principle or two a few times in your life. Let them follow their own path.

The DNR arrested 257 people for illegal possession of a deer last year, a charge frequently applied to poachers. Itís safe to say none of those cases created a buzz the way this one has.
And what makes this two any better then these 257 people, Could it be he's a cop and thinks he's better then they law??? If we turn these two loose, Lets turn out the 257 people that got arrested last year and give them all there fine money back and everything else they had to pay out, and Pay then for the time they had to set in jail, Whats good for one is good for all...

I never said he was above the law. But from what I'm understanding, this couple was not trying to hide anything from the DNR. They sound upfront and forthcoming about it from the get go. The problem I'm having is why did the DNR wait so long to decide to do anything about it? Could it be that they secretly wanted that deer to survive too?? I don't know? Also, when there are oil spills and wildlife birds get caught in such a mess, don't people go help nurse them back to health by washing them in "Dawn Dish Washing Liquid." Don't those birds carry decease? And if deer are such a risk to humans, why are we eating them?? It's too bad this whole thing has gotten way out of hand. It may have been better for this couple to have paid the fine than to let it continue. However, after seeing that young lady talk on TV, she may be the second best nurse I've ever seen?? My daughter holds first place for being my favorite nurse. lol
