Heard over 20 cafeteria people quit the new Chartwell's school food service today. They are not allowed to talk to each other unless it is about service, Chef's hats and more.
Anyone know why these people quit?

I hadn't heard that. I'd like to hear more. Also, what do the kids think of the new lunches?

It is true that many employees quit and for many reasons.I am one that chose not to work for the company Chartwells. The employees had to lose seniority and lose any sick pay they had coming I believe. For some they either had to retire (if they had enough time in) to get their benefits. The new company offers three choices of lunches which is great, however the current price is 1.80 a day. When I asked at a meeting for Chartwells if lunch prices will go up they said that is the school boards decision.I will be surprised if they don't go up because how can they make a profit serving 2 more options. The employees had no say I feel in the matter and I know of employees who are very disappointed the way things were handled in the matter. It is awful the turnout for some of the employees who put alot of time and caring into their positions.

I am also a former employee, It seems to me as though there were many lies told during these meetings, many schools lost most of their employees. Everton lost all but 1 as did Eastview. I will miss the the work and most defintly miss the kids but I personally think this new company is a big fat joke, my youngest child came home yesterday and said the food was horrible and he wants to take his lunch. My oldest said it was very different and wasn't to fond of it either. Heard from a high schooler yeaterday that the prices have went up as well. This is yet another effort in Connersville trying look bigger then what we are, I hope they have the hardest time ever trying to find loyal and caring employees. I suppose they will call us employees who decided not to be lied to and try to get us back and when that happens I will have to just laugh and hang up. I will be going to lunch with both my children and see for myself if they do indeed offer all they promised during the meetings.

To me it seemed their was no real benefit to hire the new company to take over the Fayette County School System. The previous Food Service Director in my opinion done a excellent job.To my understanding she had turned a descent profit and had not had to raise lunch prices for years. If this was suppose to benefit the children the only thing different at least for elementary seems to be a salad bar.Well we could have served salad ,no big deal. The new company is suppose to be healthier for the children like Turkey Taco Salad and Turkey Hot Dogs. In reality how many children will eat and like this. Sure some but what about the others. How is that helping the ones who won't eat it and go all day with nothing on their stomache.I have children of my own and the reality is if they don't like it they won't eat it.In my opinion it seems to be about money.

It is not a rumor it is fact. People were lied to by this company big time. They took away a lot and people won't stand for it. The school board needs to cancel their contract on the grounds of discriminating against people who have worked there many years. When school is out you are told if you collect unemployment to not come back and so on.
So far the kids hate the food. Do you want your kids to eat totally processed everything????? Cheap stuff. The only reason they got the contract is that they will do it cheaper than the school can and how is that done??? Getting rid of older employees and hiring new ones at beginning wages and cheap food.

seem to like the new options..I have not asked them much about it, my oldest is in high school and said they had more options and healthier which he coaches were promoting to them to try..turkey dogs and turkey salads etc. are a great option..we should not jump on the band wagon to put healthier options down. I do agree that if they treated the employees disrespectful then that should be addressed, but lets not put down a change just because we do not like change our kids need to learn to eat healthier and it sounds like that is a very good thing the school has done adding salad bars and such..

Typical soccer mom with no brains past her kids eating turkey. A company could hog tie their employees as long as your child gets the turkey and a salad. Sure healthier is better but have you even checked out how much processed stuff is going to be going to your child.? I guarantee you don't even think about it.
Pack the kids lunch and they will be better off.
I bet you buy sweat shop clothes too and don't even think about it.

a salad is not always healthier!!! Growing children need better sources of protein, vitimans and minerals!!! Just a salad for a noon meal is not a good choice for growing children.

Soccer mom's aren't the problem in this area. And wanting your child to have healthier choices isn't a crime. I do agree that packing your child's lunch is a better choice though.

It's not just the options. The quality is above what we had, they are using Indiana produce to support local farmers. Read the menu.

Gotta love the school corp. Close schools and build new ones. Get rid of faithful employees and hire someone from God knows where....does anyone know?

Remember this crap when the elections come around next year. There's no rule says they have to stay. Unfortunately, Dr. Hodges has done his damage.

I'll bet the old crew could have made healthier food if directed to do so. It's too bad that kids have been allowed to eat stuff that isn't healthy, but good eating habits start at home.

I did not mean they only eat a salad, obviously I needed to include a detailed menu of what my child eats for you to not attack me..typical b.s. My son does eat protein, I was just acknowledging the fact there are healthier options such as salad instead of little debbies and a bologna sandwich with chips.. BUT everyone needs to think about eating healthier!and you can kiss this moms a$$. your probably an overweight lazy ass who thinks a candy bar and pop serves as a meal..oh wait is that me stereotyping you like you did me??

Have any of you eaten the food at school last year versus this year? I have. I work at the middle school. I saw many times kids eating a double order of fries and that was it. Some would just eat pizza, every day. Some would just eat a processed meat they called hamburger that tasted like rubber. Salads were ok and just that. OK. I do not blame the cafeteria workers for any of it. That's what they had to offer. At least now they can choose to eat food that is fresher and more choices to choose from. They can get an extra fruit at no extra cost. That's great! Teach your kids to try other foods that are healthier for them. It has to be better then what we had. I can not speak for the cafeteria workers but I try to support them as much as I can.

The fact that a food product is called turkey or chicken as opposed to pork or beef doesn't automatically make it better for us.

Lean cuts of pork or beef can be better for us than turkey or chicken that is ground up with its own fat and/or skin.

Sad to see dedicated long term employees treated with such disrespect.

I'm all for healthy but it is much more expensive. I can't afford 5 or 6 dollars a day per child. (High School)
