There is no port forwarding from a modem. Routers have the port forwarding function.

You need a router to perform port forwarding. If you want to access your home network from another location across the internet you will have to setup something on your network so that you can access it by using a host name. Bridgemax mostly uses dynamic ip addresses which means they change all the time. So your ip is never the same. To get by this you can use a service like dyndns.com A program on your computer will update dyndns.com with your ip address as it changes. To access you network from another network you would use a host name like host.name.com . Now you don't have to worry about knowing your ip address since your home computer will update dyndns.com with your new ip allowing you to access your network with the host name that they provide you with.

BTW the bridgemaxx modems ARE also a router, so they have their own firewall etc. I am having the same problem trying to set up PF. the company wouldnt give me the username/pw for the modem homepage. i asked them to just forward 1 port for me. guess i will see if they do it then.

Bridgemaxx is pretty good. You just have to watch if you are using windows vista or 7 you have to disable the IPv6 connectivity.

not all modems of theirs have routers. Mine is a plain modem. To do port forwarding with bridgemaxx you also have to pay $10 for a static ip address that you may get to keep. Mine has been handed to other people 3 times since we got it february and we have to keep changing it when our internet stops working.
