No one is trying to take guns away! I'm so sick of people saying, "They're trying to take away my rights!" The only thing Obama and NY State is trying to do is make it harder for mentally unstable citizens attain weapons. They also want to ban assault rifles. You can still have your pistols, shot guns and hand guns. Why should we as citizens have military style weapons? They're made solely for killing humans. Our second amendment says we have the right to bear arms, not what kind of arms. They didn't have military assault rifles with 30 rounds of ammunition in them when the constitution was written. It's called "gun control" because we as citizens should control the mentally unstable individuals from attaining these weapons.

Last month, December 29, 2012 marked the 122nd Anniversary of the murder of 297 Sioux Indians at Wounded Knee Creek on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota. These 297 people, in their winter camp, were murdered by federal agents and members of the 7th Cavalry who had come to confiscate their firearms “for their own safety and protection”. The slaughter began AFTER the majority of the Sioux had peacefully turned in their firearms. When the final round had flown, of the 297 dead or dying, two thirds (200) were women and children.

Around 40 members of the 7th Cavalry were killed, over half cut down by friendly fire from the Hotchkiss guns of their overzealous comrades-in-arms. Twenty members of the 7th Cavalry were deemed “National Heros” and awarded the Medal of Honor for their acts of cowardice.

We do not hear of Wounded Knee today. It is not mentioned in our history classes or books. What little does exist about Wounded Knee is normally the sanitized “Official Government Explanation” or the historically and factually inaccurate depictions of the events leading up to the massacre on the movie screen.

Wounded Knee was among the first federally backed gun confiscation attempts in United States history. It ended in the senseless murder of 297 people.

Before you jump on the emotionally charged bandwagon for gun-control, take a moment to reflect on the real purpose of the Second Amendment - The right of the people to take up arms in defense of themselves, their families, and property in the face of invading armies or an oppressive government. The argument that the Second Amendment only applies to hunting and target shooting is asinine. When the United States Constitution was drafted “hunting” was an everyday chore carried out by men and women to put meat on the table each night, and “target shooting” was an unheard of concept, musket balls were a precious commodity in the wilds of early America, and were certainly not wasted “target shooting”. The Second Amendment was written by people who fled oppressive and tyrannical regimes in Europe, and refers to the right of American citizens to be armed for defense purposes should such tyranny rise in the United States.

As time goes on the average citizen in the United States continues to lose personal freedom or “liberty”. Far too many times unjust bills are passed and signed into law under the guise of “for your safety” or “for protection”. The Patriot Act signed into law by G.W. Bush, then expanded and continued by Barack Obama is just one of many examples of American citizens being stripped of their rights and privacy for “safety”. Now, the Right to Keep and Bear Arms is on the table, and will, most likely be taken away for “our safety”.

Throughout history evil people have committed evil acts. In the Bible one of the first stories is that of Cain killing Abel. We can not legislate “evil” into extinction. Good people will abide by the law, defective people will always find a way around it.

Where is “evil” and “malevolence” most often found? In the hands of those with the power - governments. That greatest human tragedies on record and the largest loss of innocent human life can be attributed to governments. Who do governments target?“Scapegoats” and “enemies” within their own borders… but only after they have been disarmed to the point where they are no longer a threat. Ask any Native American, and they will tell you it was inferior technology and lack of arms that contributed to their demise. Ask any Armenian why it was so easy for the Turks to exterminate millions of them, and they will answer “We were disarmed before it happened”. Ask any Jew what Hitler’s first step prior to the mass murders of the Holocaust was - confiscation of firearms from the people.

Without the Second Amendment we have no right to defend ourselves and our families.

Well, I'm pissed at both sides as neither has posed the only sensible, doalble and enforcable solution that would not only greatly reduce the chances of maniacs getting their hands on guns of any type but keeping them from the hands of children who, as last years events proved, represent a large portion of accidental shootings and that is..........require all guns to be secured. Either trigger locks or in a gun caninet.
No second amendment issue and common sense prevails.

While the president may say he doesnt plan on taking guns that people use for protection and hunting, just wait and see. This is only the beginning.

Copy paster-thank you for posting that. The government wants to forget what they did to my ancestors.

It is my constitutional right to own guns, that means if I want to go out and buy an AK-47, I have that right.

Last time I checked, criminals dont pay attention to the laws, so they are going to own whatever gun they want. All these new laws will do is stop the average working class joe from protecting his family. Hitler started small too.

Sorry friend, but you really should read what Copy Paster posted AGAIN ... only, this time, PAY ATTENTION!

The Second Amendment is EXACTLY for the reason he posted "to protect citizens against their GOVERNMENT"

So, by that reasoning, taking "military style assault rifles" away from folks (or taking them off the shelves, making them unavailable for purchase) would fly directly in the face of that amendment, in that citizens would be UNABLE to defend themselves against the government.

Imagine taking a 38 caliber pistol (a weapon we would still be allowed to have AFTER the gun ban) against someone from your government carrying a "military style assault rifle" with a laser sight ... does that seem a fair fight to you?

For that reason, if you take away guns that are "similar" to what the government has available to it, you infringe on the entire intent of the Second Amendment.

Oh, and here's a little extra bonus.

If King Obama and his left wing cronies are successful in getting these weapons off the shelves, what do you think is going to happen when they wake up and realize that only 1 percent of gun crimes in the U.S. are committed by a person using a "military style assault weapon?"

What happens when a shooter goes into a school and uses three "handguns" and kills ONLY, say 8 or 9 kids?

This will be only the beginning. Unfortunately, due to the culture we live in, gun violence will not be stemmed simply by the elimination of "military style assault weapons."

Maybe Republicans should get their priorities straight and shouldn't have promoted so much hate in their campaigns in the last election. For example, Murdock saying it is God's will that women get raped and the Republican party not withdrawing their endorsement of him and his (their) views. Same sex marriage, does this really hold the same priorities as gun rights and the second amendment now? Why do you really care if two people love each other? Are you sorry you promoted so much hate during the election now, instead of focusing on the issues? Like now, all we hear is that all Democrats are for gun control, when actually that is not at all true.

We the people, doesn't mean Republicans against Democrats.

Something to think about, isn't it?

The government should store guns to hand out to specified groups for emergency homeland protection only. We should be required to turn in any and all privately owned guns and anyone using an illegal weapon for any reason would face the death penalty. Special government groups could do all the hunting to help feed the hungry instead of welfare and government assistance.

There is absolutely no reason for any private citizen to NEED a firearm for any reason. I have made my opinion quite clear to my local, state and federal representatives.

If the police can't get to your home in time to protect you, do you really think someone is going to get to the armory on time to pass them out? Besides, the death penalty is in place and it hasn't stopped crime. Oh! by the way, make sure you put a gun free zone sign in your yard so that the criminals will go to your house and not mine. If you want to stop true assault weapons sales, start with William Holder and Obama. They are are selling to the drug cartel and Al Quida Terrorists. That is a fact and you should wake up.
This anti-gun thing in America is a smokescreen to cover up what is really going on in D.C.. Sorry to wake you from your sleeping slumber, Monday Mauler.

Hmmm ... hatred you say? You mean, something like "wanting to put black people back in chains?" ... that kind of hate?

See, this cuts both ways because THAT is what Joe Biden said during the campaign. So let's not make this a Republican/Democrat issue ... because it's not. BOTH parties have idiots who say things out of turn ... even THAT isn't a Republican/Democrat thing ... lack of tact is a human thing, duh.

But back to the real issue (you should try this too), Libs and Cons alike will lose their weapons and their right under the Second Amendment to bear them.

Bring the Republican/Democrat issue into this again ... and you don't get to be part of the discussion anymore, k?

The gun toting people talking about the 2nd Amendment being there to protect you from the Government is simply not true. Since this has been a hot button issue it would do you well to research "factual" information pertaining to its inclusion in the "Bill or Rights". You need to take into consideration the period of time and that the only arms were one shot weapons.

A Republican-controlled Congress refused to pass a re-authorization of the Assault Weapons Ban in 2004, allowing the ban to expire. President George W. Bush was criticized by gun control supporters for not actively pressuring Congress to renew the ban, while gun rights supporters criticized him for indicating that he would sign a re-authorization if Congress passed it.

Amendment II

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

Comment: In those days some States had Militias. A "Free State" [defined is: a State without slaves. Militia [defined is: body of citizen soldiers.
