I still have yet to see any article that said the driver was texting talking on the phone or plugging in her charger. the police are still investigating this tragedy.

I continue to pray for this child's family and friends.

The Pal-Item replaced the article with a new one, but the story is on other sites. It plainly states in the article that is quoted below that the driver of the car 'plugged her cell phone into the charger and when she looked up it was too late to stop.'

-----

LIBERTY, IND.ó An 8-year-old boy died at Cincinnati Childrenís Hospital Medical Center on Thursday, a day after a car struck him as he crossed U.S. 27 to board his school bus.

The Hamilton County Coronerís Office notified Eric Cantrell, sheriff in Union County, Ind., about the death of Jaret Philbeck, a Union School third-grader.

No charges have been filed, but police said the driver may have been momentarily distracted at the time of the accident.

Jenna Hoke, 20, of Liberty, told Cantrell she had plugged her cell phone into her charger just before the crash occurred, Chief Deputy Jeff Franklin said. When Hoke looked up, it was too late to stop, he said.

Hoke was heading north on U.S. 27 around 7:05 a.m. Wednesday morning in Cottage Grove when the boy was struck as he headed toward his school bus across the street. The busí yellow caution lights were on but the driver had not yet deployed the busí red stop lights at the time of the accident, police said.

No charges have been filed.

This is so sad my mother is a school bus driver here in town and has had many people run her STOP sign or just fly around as she is stopping.I mean come on people if u can text drive and talk on your phone while drinking your coffee then you most certainly can pay close enough attention to a big yellow bus that takes children to and from school it is had flashing lights all over it and you can't miss it!!!!! Some peoples excuse is I didn't see it or I didn't know it was stopping when lights start flashing it's stopping and don't lie u know u seen it.I also want to add why in the world would u be looking down at a charger and not lookin at the road isn't that how this stuff happens by not being a safe driver by being careless? People who feel sorry for the girl need help I have two sons 3&5 I have no remorce for her what if that was my child or yours would u feel sorry for her? NO!!! I also want to say sorry to the family that lost their child I can only imagine the pain your suffering with god bless you and him

This could happen to anyone. It happened to my dad when i was 12.we were only a block from home, when a child younger than i drove his bike out in front of us and landed on the hood of our car.thank God my dad got the car stopped quickly. The boy was just bruised up.But the thing is,my dad was paying attention but couldnt get the car stopped quickly enough to avoid hitting the child.Parents PLESE TEACH YOUR CHILDREN TO LOOK BOTH WAYS BEFORE CROSSING A ROAD.I pray for the childs family, and the young girl. I know my tragedy turned out well. But it's somthing i will never forget.

use of cell phones in a moving vehicle should be absolutely forbidden.
zero tolerance.
nothing is so important that a person needs to talk or text on a phone while operating a vehicle.

Maybe you will feel different in a few years. Your sons will be young drivers that will be inexperienced. How will you feel if they hurt someone. I'm guessing you would say its not their fault.

Einstein! You an attorney? Accidents such as this one carry fault, like it or not! You can bet this will be resolved in court.

yes it probably will end up in a lawsuit. i am just saying it was an accident.. Accidents happen all the time because we are human and we make mistakes even when driving. My attention is not always 100% on my driving. Everybody is so quick to blame this young girl...Well what if it had of been your daughter behind the wheel? I am looking at both sides. and like i said before if my 8 yr old had to cross a highway to board the bus, i would of been walking him...but a lot of parents probably wouldn't so i am not placing the blame on them.

Yes, sadly, it was an accident that could have been avoided, had she been paying attention. A big yellow bus with flasihing lights, neon signage and a flashing blue light on top cannot be missed. What about the child that was killed due to her negligence? Yes, my sympaties are with this young woman and the little boy, but........my daughter, your daughter, anyone's aughter, she is still to be held accountable for her actions.

Am I understanding this correctly, all you people have never let anything distract you while operating your vehicle? Never changed radio, answered phone, looked at gps, looked at your kids in rearview mirror? We have all been distacted while driving, the only difference is, this horrible thing never happened to those of you that quickly judge.

This bad for all! We've all done just as you said. Kids don't think, and yes we all do things in the car! This should be a lesson for all! When we're in the car, JUST keep eyes on the road! Because our babies run out NOT thinking, not that it was his fault , just saying! NO judging should be done here!! So sorry for all envolved! God Bless you all!

Parents should be responsible to help young ones safely wait, learn to drive, and make wise choices. Accidents happen and all involved will be affected by this a lifetime. Topic trash rude comments are sad.

No I will most certainly not say that at all I have had my license 7 Years and have never came close to having an accident it's called being a offensive and defensive driver.I would never take up for my children when they are in the wrong they need to learn right from wrong and deal with the punishment.and it's called pay attention to the road not your cell phone!!!!
