What will Conneaut's future be in 5 years?

Hopefully Conneaut will be a better community with better paying jobs and growth in the next five years. Time will tell.

High gas prices are going to be the incentive to turn small communities back into the centralized support systems of the past. Conneaut is going to florish in order to overcome a high-priced future.

With new jobs @ the new truck stop, and possibly the industrial park, I can only hope that Conneaut will begin to flourish in the future.

Conneaut is beautiful. The sunsets are breath taking, the sunrise is beautiful, Lake Front birds are special and unique, the neighbors are freindly, the covered bridges are nice, the water falls are neat, Lake Road is awesome with it's senic views, boating is fun, fishing is better, watching wind surfers makes you smile, hunting is very good, parks are fun, car clubs are freindly, sled riding is great, schools are beautiful, local phone company is competitive, and there is plenty of housing available. We really have it made. Why let a few sour grapes ruin the bunch? You don't have too. Enjoy what we have. There is so much worse in other parts of the world.

Hey buddy, take off those rose colored glasses. Conneaut is on it's way to being a ghost town. We have been losing good paying jobs for years. Emco Wheaton, Norton's, P&C Dock Company, the N&W railroad yards, Giant Eagle, General Electric, etc. These were all good paying community supporting jobs not the low paying jobs left. We need aggressive management from the council and city manager, not the bumbling antics we have now in order to turn this town around. Yes, Conneaut is a pretty place but what good is it without a tax base. I would hazard a guess that you are not from Conneaut. I am. In my many years here, I've seen Conneaut go from a community of over 20,000 to a population of nearly half that. We had Grant's, Woolworths, A&P, Stop & Shop, 2 hardware stores, a children's store, a bus stop, restaurants, jeweler's, at least 2 drug stores, and these were all downtown. We've lost a major department store, Big Wheel and a big grocery store and drug store, Valu King, and Valu Drug in the Conneaut Plaza. All the things you mentioned are nice but they don't support families or pay the school taxes.

Sure, come live in Conneaut. Easy to say for an outsider. What if your family can't even afford Mcdonald's? Get your head out of the sand. I have seen first hand the effects of long term mismanagement and indifference this city has gone through. What a shame people are so complacent and misinformed. You are the root of the problem.

I have lived here for yrs. I havent seen anything change and therefore my conclusion is that Conneaut will never change. Some people tend to think that a truck stop coming here will help the econony here, wake up. One addition to the city will not make this city rise.

Conneaut used to be such a nice town with good jobs and lots of places to shop downtown. My grandfather said that in his day the harbor area was booming and people actually came from Erie to visit. What went wrong?
