Hi :) Just wondering if kids are allowed to play in the small fountain downtown? I would be there with my kids while they are playing. We always love going to the big one in Erie, PA, so I thought this would be fun for them to if it is allowed. Thanks in advance for any info!:)

Nobody can play in that fountain. That is why over the years the kids uptown donate a box of Tide to the fountain. Been that way forever. Back in the day it used to be a wishing fountain and people would throw change in it and the cops would go collect it every now and then. Of course that was when this town was still nice. The nearest wishing fountain I know of now is at the Mountaineer. They have a beautiful one inside the casino lobby and almost every one who passes throws change in it. Of course that is not a place for kids or swimming.
The best place to take the kids is Conneaut Park and down to the beach to play on the sandbar with SUPERVISION. If the water turns cold around your feet or legs there is a DROP OFF shelf with a tremendous undertow that has taken the lives of some of the strongest swimmers from this area. It is nice to use as long as you walk around and figure out the bad spots. It is really large and sometimes the water is only ankle deep to waist deep for kids.
Or you could go to Lake Shore park and walk through geese crap. Or Walnut and worry about the kids going out five feet and being drug out over their heads because that beach gets deep fast and has a lot of waves coming in from the boats. Hands down the Conneaut beach is the best.

You could climb down the hill across from the old Deveroux into the gulf. That place is some kind of re-hab place now or something on Main. You will see stone entrance things and there was steps back in the day but now they are broken up but the path is there. Some people swim down there but by the legs of the bridges that is not safe for small kids. There is trails that go for miles down there. The water is warmer in the summer to wade in but not clean of course like a fountain.

Thanks for the replies. After looking at it up close for the first time tonight, I realized it's not the kind of fountain they can play in :) We do love going to Lake Shore Park.

Yea it is a nice park. The beach is not the greatest but it is alright down by the water. here is a safety tip to parents.
It is best to dress kids in bright colored clothes at the beach or pools. Never in swimsuits that match the color of the water you are swimming in. If anything happens they will be located faster if they can be seen under the water if they get taken out or underwater. So blue or green swimsuits should never be worn, because they blend in too good and can not be spotted if someone was on the bottom needing help.
Stay safe and have fun! There is also a beach at the reservoir out in Andover and one two in Geneva.
