This smells and it's not just from the fire. How did it start? The Parks electricity has been off since last summer.
A year or so ago the Flynn house burnt, a half million dollar home, with only $62,000 worth of insurance. Now this!!
I know the land is worth more to developers as vacant land than an Amusement Park. With fires, inadequate insurance and a Judge and Board in control that won't accept money for improvements, this a a back door way to destory a long time landmark and State Treasure for greed. Like I said, things smell.

It's sad to see such a wonderful landmark go up in smoke. How convinent that all of the motors for the parks rides were in the building, and there was no insurance. Somebody got their way, if there is an investigation, it will be vary short, and somehow, the fire will not be considered arson...WTF?

Mr Deshner: I feel very badly for your Huge financial property loss. I see you had no insurance in the Erie Times article. I also have had major financial troubles with a property, as I bought a rental with good intentions and can't afford to make repairs it needs. You are not alone!!!! Just remember that in this dark time of your life. I'm sure there are many others that share similar property frustrations. Thanks for all your efforts to help the community.

I grew up at the lake, I spent every summer of my childhood there. Now I have children that spend their summer there. We love the park, we visit there every weekend.( before it closed last summer.) It is a sad day for many families who now are going to be robbed of great memories, as I cannot see the park ever reopening now.
I believe this was intentional.

I agree with everyone that this wasnt accidental. it seems too convient that half the midway goes up in flames after they announced parts of the park could be leased. Its a shame that we need to build more useless condos than to save a historic park which is a dying breed especially now that kennywood has been sold. so much for childhood memories, since big business is more important.

It was so hard to hear about this fire. I miss the park so much and I pray every year for it to re-open. This was absolutely devastating. It too is my childhood that is dwindling down to nothing but the memories. I hope they find the real cause of this fire.

This is such a sad loss for all of us that have know the pleasure of visiting the park. It has been a great place to take our grandchildren and even though they are teens now, they still enjoy going up every summer to visit the park.
I am sorry, but I do feel this is suspicious and if a developer wants to take it over than just come out and say so and let it go in peace. If I had the money, I would buy it in a heart beat and start it up again properly.

Last Oct. My family and I walked through what was left of a once very beautiful park and a big part of my childhood too. It was sad to see her in such sad shape. I had many relitives that lived near and worked at the park as I was growing up. And when I came of age, I too worked at the Park. I have some really great memories of that time and they will always be special to me. It holds a very special place and in my memories it will always be as it was in my memories from 1963-64.

I have so many great memories of the park. I agree with SLG from Heritage if I had the money I would rebuild it.

This was especially sad for me to see. I have lived in Conneaut Lake all of my life and spent the majority of my summer days relaxing on the lake and hanging out in the park. When the fire sirens woke me up around 2:30 in the morning, my heart sunk. I visited the scene yesterday and it is pretty bad. I walked up midway through the smoke to view all of the still smoldering debris. It's quite sad. I cannot see the park reopening after this, unless this opens some eyes. Sadly, this might be the final nail in the coffin for the park we love.

I am glad to read all this because I have been so depressed all day - Good to see so many others feel the same way. When the park did not open last year, my kids cried. They are 5 and 9 and we go up several times every summer. Our memories are wonderful and it is our family's favorite place. My husband's family all vacationed there every summer during his childhood. I was so hopeful it would open this year. Every year we hear of rich developers trying to take over that land to knock the hotel and park down and build either condos or a casino. It makes me sick! This cannot be a coincidence. Seems like someone is trying to make certain that the park definately could not open this year. I pray something is done to save this historical landmark. I wish someone would set up a website to make donations. So many people love the park, I know they would get enough in donations to save it. I would give my entire tax refund! My kids saw this today and were so let down because we had hopes all year that they park and hotel would be open this year.

I grew up about 15 miles from CL and I used to hitchhike over there almost every evening in the summer after I was about 13, and hung out up at Dreamland Ballroom, which we always called the Pavilion. This was in the mid 50's. We had a little joke we would pull. I would sit on a windowsill on the back wall overlooking a fenced-in maintenance area and my friend Ted would walk over and punch me, and I would fall out the window, but swing down onto a ledge that was a few feet under the window. Everyone who wasn't in on it thought that I had actually fallen to the ground, and it generated a lot of excitement. One time, some guy that I didn't know, nor had ever seen before, had witnessed this, and to be funny he punched me. I wasn't expecting it, and didn't react quickly enough and I actually did fall to the ground. Luckily I landed on my feet and was unhurt. There was a lot of screaming upstairs, but all I needed was for someone to come down and let me in so I could come back up.

This truly is a sad time! I have always kept hopeful dreams of the park making it back to life again someday.
I have volunteered to clean and help put the park to bed and I have always enjoyed the time with the park and hotel even while I was cleaning it.

Last time that I cleaned the Dreamland Ballroom upon leaving I took a look back, smiled and thought to myself how beautiful it looked.

I used to sit in the ballroom, close my eyes and pretend to hear the ballroom music and imagine the dancers gliding across the floor. Thoughts of the dreamland could always take me back in time.
These will be the memories that I will hold dear to my heart where nothing..not even fire can ever take that away!

*Will miss you dreamland*

CLP WAS MY CHILDHOOD, EVERY YEAR AT SCHOOL WE WOULD GET OUR RIDE-O-RAMA TIXS AND HEAD OUT TO THE PARK..THE BEST WAS THE HELL HOLE, WE LOVED IT, AND THEN RIDING THE SCRAMBLER IN THE DARK WAS AWESOME. THE MOMORIES THAT ARE HELD ARE ALWAYS GOING TO BE WITH ME BUT TO SHARE THE PAST CAN ONLY BE CARRIED ON FOR A WHILE, YOU HAVE TO LIVE IT TO HAVE THESE MEMORIES... MY SENIOR PROM WAS AT THE AMERICAN PIE FACILITY, AND THEN I WENT TO A PROM THE FOLLOWING YEAR THAT WAS HELD IN THE BALLROOM PAVILION..WHAT A SHAME THAT THESE WONDERFUL MEMORIES WILL NO LONGER LIVE FOR OTHERS TO CHERISH..PEOPLE ARE TO WRAPPED UP INTO MONEY AND POLITICS THAT THEY DONT REMEMBER WHAT ITS LIKE TO BE A KID AND THE DREAMS AND FAIRY TALES THAT YOU GROW UP WITH, AND DISCOVER THROUGHT LAUGHS AND GOOD CLEAN ENTERTAINMENT, WISH THERE WAS MORE WE COULD ALL DO AS A WHOLE GROUP TO SAVE THIS PAST HISTORICAL PARK, THE BEAUTY OF IT IS HELD WITHIN ALL OF US, AND WE KNOW WHAT IT MEANT TO ALL!!
