Would it be more accurate to say he successfully leaps from burning home, rather than safely? It is not safe to jump from the second floor, but he was successful.
I don't mean to nitpick on the writing, but I just thought I would offer the suggestion.

They dramatize the headlines all the time. They can't just report the news, they have to juice it up.
On CNN when the plane hit the Hudson, the headline accross the bottom was "Plane slams into Hudson River".
A. This is completely untrue. Watch the tape, it touched down like it was meant to land there.
B. If it slammed down, do you think anyone would have survived?
