Is central air conditioning needed?

Hi. I am moving to Conesus next year and building a new home and trying to decide on if we need to put in AC! I watch the weather channel desktop weather to watch the humidity percentages and it appears the humidity is higher in the mornings and then I guess it burns off as it gets warmer during the day. I live in MD now where the humidity is always like 70-80% and it seems like Conesus is typically like 30-40%. This weather thing may give bad info as well - that is why I was seeing what real people had to say that live in the area! Any input would be appreciated! Thanks!

Better to have Central AC than not to. Go and work at the College in town - no central AC or AC at all in some buildings. Impossible to work during the hot days over there. No AC is just too primitive nowadays. Can't sleep at night in summertime. I installed a window unit in my place. Best money I ever spent. House value can only go up with central AC. A real plus, IMHO!

I assume she means SUNY Geneseo, but I might be wrong. Many buildings there have no air conditioning or very little.

Ohh. I guess I was confused because it said she was in Plano TX and I didn't put NY in my original post. I have only been up there 3x so far and am not familiar with where everything is! Do you feel the same way about the AC?

If you are going to build a new home, then why not have central air put in? If/when you decide to sell, you will get your money back. Also, if you are not used to the humidity, you will be very uncomfortable. The humidity is typically lower at night, however, you'll still have many sweaty nights. For the price of a window unit or two, and the cost to run, you might as well do it right. I have central air, and would never buy a home without it.

The summers are very short, but the hot, humid weather can be miserable. I would put in Central Air.

I agree the cost is minimal now, then thinking to add after the fact. But even if you don't use it your return is the factor and key to have it. My sister inlaw just built a house this year on the east side and has used her central air maybe 5 days in July granted it is on now lol.
