Au contraire, I found the orchestra muted and distant and wished for more sound, which they are fully able to give with the open pit configuration. With Puccini, the orchestra should be more than underscoring, and this orchestra sounded beautiful. This is a fine "first" opera or thousandth opera and a magnificent performance. The top four leads are all strong, but I really loved Hyung Yun's voice and bearing. I hope he's back again soon. Some of the tempi were a bit expansive, but what the heck, it was opening night. Congratulations to all on a wonderful performance.
If you are lucky enough to score a ticket, go and bask in the glorious music. You will want to return.
