beware of commerce vet

Jackson County does NOT have a Humane Society. They dump strays at the Commerce Vet. I responded to an ad on Petfinders and traveled from SC to GA to adopt a puppy on 2/15/10. No one told me that she was a "stray". If animals are not claimed by owner, the vet can adopt and keep the fee or euthanize and get paid by state or county. They do not do proper exams on these animals. I understand that money is tight, however, a person willing to adopt would be willing to pay to hae a complete vet check. I only had my angel one day before she got sick and had whipworm ($20 fecal exam could have detected) Parvo & Corona. She was not strong enough to pull thru the ordeal of treating for Parvo and was put down. I have a $500 vet bill now and a broken heart. If anyone knows where the littermates are (2 males, blue merle shelties) please contact me by email at [e-mail]. I would love to know their fate after being in the same holding pen.

Jackson County Ga. DOES have a Humane Society, but not a shelter. We post our pets on our website, www.HSJC.com and on Petfinders.com . All our pets are housed by volunteers and are current on all shots, spayed or neutered and microchipped. I'm terribly sorry about your dog, but wanted to let you know that Jackson County Humane Society DOES exist and we are trying hard to gather enough funds for a shelter!
Commerce Veterinary Hospital does house pets (aka strays) that are brought in by Jackson County Animal Control.
